Culbrethed
I concede nothing. An inferior team was handed this game by the officiating.
Blame of the Game: Jered Weaver

Fangraphs says it was Weaver by a mile
I kind of agree sense his meltdown buried us

I think this one goes to the bullpen
Because if they were as good as they were supposed to be, Weaver wouldn't have been left in like that in the first place.

Just to remind you, Rev
Joh merely gave us insurance. We had the win before that at-bat even happened.
Nice try, though. You amuse me.

This loss hurts
Without the crummy officiating, we would have probably won. But, ignoring the ref mistakes, our bullpen cost us this game because every time we would creep back, the bullpen would give up a couple of runs. I hate to give the blame to Oliver, since Sexson was clearly out at first and that was one of the ERs he gave up, but he was the least effective of our bullpen pitchers tonight.

Gotta go with Weaver...
HGH and Kazoo left a LOT of guys on base with some F'ugly swings! Bullpen was not so good either!

SLC lost tonight finally
11-9 to Portland.
Brown only went 1-5, but Wood was 2-4 w/a bomb...up to .250.
Except for Wood and KMo there are some incredible BA's on that squad thus far!

You're so full of shit Rev
Okay, so let's assume Johjima gets sent to 1st on the call, so you've got runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
The next batter, Yuniesky Betancourt, hit a triple, so those two runs score anyway, how the fuck did that call change the outcome of the game? It didn't change a damn thing, either way both Cairo and Johjima score. Find better excuses for losing next time.
by Notor on Apr 11, 2008 10:42 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, the triple was going to happen NO MATTER WHAT...
Solid logic.
1st and 2nd 1 out is much different than man on third with 1 out. You have infielders at double-play depth, not in on the grass. You are making pitches to induce the DP, not trying to throw past the batter's bat.
by Downing Rules on Apr 12, 2008 12:00 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
How's this for shitty logic
The Mariners were up 6-5 before Johjima even stepped up to the plate, did the Angels end up scoring 6 runs? No? Even if these imaginary plays that never occured happened to deliver you 0 runs allowed in that inning you still lose because Lowe shut you down in the 9th.
You guys are really reaching for these excuses, at least acknowledge that it was your own shitty pitching that lost this game for you instead of being a big baby about the officiating that had no real appreciable impact on the game.
by Notor on Apr 12, 2008 12:10 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I have no qualms about the officiating (UMPIRING is the proper term in baseball) as I did not see the game ...
I'm here trying to sweep out trolls.
Hey, my hat is off tipped to the Mariners tonight. Good game for your guys. While we are down here choking on smog and bleaching our hair, you guys are smoking hot and still in THIRD place.
All the Angels need to do is stay above water for a month or two and then they can make their move.
Trolling on our site right now is not something civil (redwolf will attest to that) that any Mariners fan should be doing. Yeah, you won, go "cyber-high-five" your LL buddies and go to bed. Leave us here to cry on our own.
by Downing Rules on Apr 12, 2008 12:20 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well that's why I wasn't talking to you
I was talking to Rev, he's a disgrace to sports bloggers everywhere and this little tantrum he's throwing doesn't even make any sense. At all. The Johjima call did not "hand the Mariners a win", for obvious reasons, the Mariners would've won the game without it, even if you don't count the triple that followed right after.
I mean fuck, there have got to be better Angels bloggers than this out there, in fact I know there are, why does this petty little douchebag get to waste SBN bandwidth?
Yeah whatever, ban me. You're what Bob Costas was talking about, and he's absolutely right in your case.
by Notor on Apr 12, 2008 2:09 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Your post-game happiness and joy is amazing!
It is also amazing that you get worked up over a simple line that Rev wrote in the title of the fanpost. Listen to yourself. You won, yet Rev still managed to beat you.
by Downing Rules on Apr 12, 2008 2:43 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Don't worry about me
I still had plenty of anger left over after the defensive debacles by Sexson/Green almost gave the game away, though I'm ecstatic that we came away with the win.
But I didn't come here to rub the win in your faces by acting all happy and lording it over you, that's poor sportsmanship. Just like it's poor sportsmanship when Rev makes up something idiotic to dismiss the loss and discredit the opponents win. I mean, if he at least had a remotely legitimate basis for saying that call changed the game, fine, but it doesn't make any sense at all....Either he doesn't realize that 6-5=1 or he's just flamebaiting people from LL (in which case, why all the complaining about trolls when you're trying your best to get them to come here and respond to you?)
Anyways, it's just one game, two more to go. May the best team win.

Matthews
I know he homered, but:
First AB of the game, he sees Figgins take four straight balls, and what does he do? He swings at the first pitch.
Later in the game, he sees Figgins walk again, and what does he do? He gets six goddamn pitches out of the strike zone and STILL finds a way to strike out. TAKE A FREAKING PITCH!!
Then he botches one in left field.
by LA Seitz on Apr 11, 2008 10:47 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Incorrect in part
GMJr. took the first pitch, for a called strike, in the 1st inning.
by jjackflash on Apr 11, 2008 11:28 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Same could be said for a number of the Angels
as usual. This swinging at pitches out of the hitting (not to mention strike) zone is nothing new to this crew. It is very tough to watch the FSNW K zone show nearly every pitch they swing at is nowhere near the strike zone! HGH was very guilty of this as was Vlad (as usual) last night.
This is nothing new and something I have mostly come to live with...don't have much choice do I? :)
HGH was 2nd on my BOTG!

where were you mariner fans last year...
when we were AL West champs by a wide margin and the mariners were drinking coffee in Seattle remembering that they missed the playoffs for a 6th straight season dating back to before the Angels won their world series (yet another thing the mariners have never done).

Suck it up. God knows us Mariner fans have to every fucking year. You think bringing up the Super Bowl/making Bigfoot and Coffee references is clever/topical/funny? Weaver for the ....er win
GMJ may have struggled, but that sixth inning was one of the most embarrassing innings I have ever seen from a major league pitcher. If I was the skip, I would have had little weav run to the fence before I allowed him back in the dugout.
That said, the 3-2 pitch to Sexson was an obvious strike. We' re suffering through a blue avalanche so far this year but that will all even out in the end.

Chin music is not the same thing as
"crack his helmet of at least putz his ribcage."
One may be a valid baseball tactic, but the other is mean spirited vengeance. Jered Weaver has nobody to blame for Raul taking him deep twice except for Jered Weaver. If Raul had shown up Weaver in some way, made a comment, or in any other way acted disrespectful, I could understand the desire to want to plunk him. Raul did nothing of the sort.

Umps to blame? No way.
In a game started by Felix, the Angels scored 5 runs. Jered and the "bullpen" didn't get it done. End of story. (I say "bullpen" because circa 2002-2007 the Angels bullpen was lights out. Now they just get lit.)
Wow. Judging from a few of the posts, some fans take baseball/cheering for laundry pretty seriously. Getting too wrapped up in sports isn't always a good thing. Reminds me of the time I met Jesse Jackson and in the heat of the moment I blurted out, "OH MY GOD! It's Mr. October!!!!"
