The Dalai Lama to the Rescue

The Dalai Lama is staying at the same hotel in Seattle as the Angels.

I say Scioscia has them get up early for a blessing and a promise to tackle the Olympic Torch secret police.

Against the oppression of Tibet

However, If me and the boys are there while protestors attack a 14 year old girl carrying the torch - don't go crying to your mama afterwards about how you got a severe asswhooping.

I agree with this.

I don't have a problem with people wanting to protest China's treatment of Tibet, and I know the Olympic Games are in China this time, but getting physical during the torch carry is just bullshit. The tradition of the torch is to bring the world together for the "world games". But, hey, it gets them on TV, so I'm sure they don't care.

Whose tradition?

Um, before we get too caught up in this whole "bring the world together" theory, the "tradition" of the torch being relayed around the world from Olympia to the modern Olympic Games began with the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin as a way for Hitler and the Nazi propaganda machine to link the powerful imagery of the Greek Gods with Aryan supremacy.

But hey, if the torch can sell more running shoes and Coca-Cola, then obviously we're "bringing the world together..."

You're only partially right.

The Nazis only relayed it from Greece to Berlin. The modern global trek for the torch started in 2004.

Either way, this wouldn't be the first tradition started on dubious circumstances that are still used today. You can dismiss it if you want, but it is now a traditional part of the Olympic Games, shoe sales or no shoe sales.

Rev,

Thinking that people getting physically violent with a torch bearer as a form of protest is reprehensible is not the same thing as supporting China's policies.

But, hey, your blog. Be a jerk if you want.

Maybye you are forgetting........

Their peaceful protests that met with senseless violence from the "warm and fuzzy" Chinese. DO you really want those human rights violators to bring the world together?

Sea-at-ha-ha-ha that's funny.

Where did I say I supported Chinese violence?

Your interpretations are nonsense. Violence of any form whether it be for protest or to put down protest is wrong. Besides, because the Chinese do it, we should all do it? What kind of retarded logic is that?

It's not as if the Chinese timed their brutal handling of Tibet purposely with the coming of the Olympic Games. It's become a hot button issue with convenient timing for public outcries.

There is a time, place, and forum for moral outrage. Accosting the torch bearers is not one of them.

Fans are typically idiots.
