Northwest Grunge at our Doorstep FRIDAY GAME THREAD
Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels, Apr 18, 2008 7:05 PM PDT
Knuckleballing R.A. Dickey has inspired game thread random song lyrics from one of my favorite Los Angeles bands, The Dickies, who are playing at Fitzgerald's in Huntington Beach on April 26...

Techmen, we’re Techmen, with spirit true and faithful,
Backing up our team with hopes undying;
Techmen, Oh, Techmen, we’re out to win today,
Showing “pep” and life with which we’re trying;
V. P., old V. P. You know our hearts are with you,
In our luck which never seems to die;
Win or lose we’ll greet you with a glad returning,
You’re the pride of V. P. I.
Chorus:
Just watch our men so big and active,
Support the Orange and Maroon,
Let’s go, Techs! We know our ends and backs are stronger,
With winning hopes, we fear defeat no longer,
To see our team plow through the line, boys,
Determined now to win or die;
So give a Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi!
Rae, Ri, old V. P. I.
Fight men, Oh, fight men! we’re going to be champions,
Adding to our list another vict’ry;
Football or baseball, the games in which we star,
They’re the sports that made old V. P. famous.
Hold them, just hold them! Your know the corps’ behind you,
Watching ev’ry movement that you make;
Winning games was nothing for our teams before us,
Keep the “rep” for V. P’s. sake.
“VPI Victory March”
You have seen the Hoyas tumble,
You have made the Indians cry,
And you know the Army mule
Once took a kick at V. P. I.
Worthy teams from Lexington
Have fought with all their might;
But now it’s time to show the world
That VPI can fight.
Interlude:
GO, TECH!
GO, TECH!
H! O! K! I! E! S!
HOKIES!
Chorus:
Clear the way, so that team from Tech
Can roll to Victory!
No foe can stand the test,
So fight your best, and we will do the rest.
Strength and speed keep you in the lead;
You’ll never go astray.
Our banner high shall ever fly
For victory is ours today.

by BigBangRobbDawgg on Apr 18, 2008 8:12 PM PDT reply actions
I was really hoping
we’d get to their bullpen early tonight. Wear ‘em out during the 1st game of the series, leaving them overworked for the next two!
Though we did get a call on Aybar's slide last night.
It was the right call, but the ump could have called him out. It was pretty close.

I actually think
He’s not doing too bad w/RISP so far this season, since he has more RBI than you’d expect for a .104 hitter
6 hits, 6 RBI now. Not too bad.
Now if he can just get on base to set the table for our catchers, so they can start hitting some 2-run homers, instead of just solo shots. (Ignoring Napoli’s Grand Slam, for now)
Well they've finally started to walk people in front of Izzy.
Now or never mighty mouse.

Why did’nt Aybar just put his glove out and catch the ball instead of standing there?

The Hunt for a Red October ...and please keep telling Clutch to chill!
The Mariners fans are rolling in misery over at LL.
Victory snatched from their greedy little claws by our man Torii Hunter. It must suck for their hero Sexson to have such a good night and have that image of Torii’s catch as his final memory of the evening.

Vahingonilo on aidointa iloa, silla siihen ei sisally tippaakaan kateutta!
May it always be so with M’s fans who are in so much misery, for which they are unworthy.
I just realized K-Rod did that on purpose as revenge for them hitting Vlad.
The fact that he had his nasty stuff is proof. He could have gotten them out easily, but he wanted them to suffer. Note that he totally acts like Ritchies’ ball is catchable after it’s hit.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Who knew
the board over there exploded because I asked one simple, harmless question of one person, that I actually wanted a legitimate answer.
I was so proud of myself too…I managed to not swear or anything! And I still got shit on. I guess my reputation precedes me, even when I’m trying to be genuinely curious.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Apr 18, 2008 10:36 PM PDT reply actions
Well
A) It’s their board, who gives a crap what they say?
and B) They actually didn’t get on you until you insisted that it sounded serious even after being told it wasn’t.
~Till the Halo burns out...
They can hide behind the 'just kidding' card if they want
but you and anyone with a brain knows they are serious when they initially told me off, and that it’s legitimately how they feel about ‘outsiders.’ The “we’re not serious, you’re too serious lolololol!” stuff only starts AFTER they’ve caught you taking something serious, so they can look good and try to make the outsider look bad, even though the content of their initial comments was as serious as my own. It’s the e-attitude. Everytime you’ve been called out, just play the “omg we’re having fun, and you’re too serious card,” and you “win” in your own little world.
Whatever, they can enjoy their empty world series trophy case for another couple decades.

Posting even an innocuous comment on another blog can appear as trolling (even if you aren't trying to troll)
Unfortunately, text completely lacks nuance and tone. Vocal communication adds an important dimension. For example, some of my posts would be hilarious if only they were read aloud by Stephen Colbert. At least, that’s what I try to believe.
And don’t mock the M’s trophy case; bad karma.

At least no worse than other boards on the SB Nation. 44FAN outside of someone ribbing you about hopping the 44 was for Mike Cameron I didn’t see them as being too mean but I’ll have to go look at it again. I thought the trophy case comment was kinda funny. When the um.. discussion.. comes down to “scoreboard” we don’t have much to defend.
