Big Hurt Back in Oakland
That big old SOB is back in the bay.
Yeah, he's like 77 years old and the Toronto Blue Jays dumped his ass, but the A's got him dirt cheap and he can still work the count with the best of them.
I don't know if this means that they're going to have to play Cust in LF all the time now, or maybe they'll platoon him with Barton.
He'll fit nicely with that relatively young offense and give them some depth. If Oakland's starting pitching holds up, Gaudin pitched a gem last night, they're going to be in this race. To me, they're the second best team in the division.

the A's think they can win the division
adding Thomas for almost nothing is a virtual no-lose for them. well done, billy.

No way they can win the division with that rotation.

It doesn't really matter.
He wasn’t hitting any better than Cust is, and they play the same position.

OW
He still destroys lefthanders.
Also, if they ever use him at 1B he traditionally hits much better when playing the field. (Of course he is just a statue now).
Also, he must be one of the slowest players in MLB history at this point. Expect them to pinch run for him a lot.

For sure
Definitely the second best team in the division! That’s about the only thing that you were right about.

Is Piazza available?
Maybe Reggie? Rudi? Wanna get mean? How about Harden, Chavez, Crosby? What, me worry?! :)

Gaudin Sucks
He was good for a half last year; then, the real Chad Gaudin materialized.

I doubt
that Gaudin’s suckage last year was due to injury. He pitched almost 200 innings last year; moreover, that does not explain his previous suckage.

you don't go from a 2.88 era to an 8 era without something being wrong with your body

when
has Gaudin ever been one to have a 2.88 ERA in the first place? That’s the point. He’s been good for all of two months in his career, yet you believe that those two months represent his true ability? OK, that makes sense.

When you are a cheezombie...
it will certainly make sense to you.
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

when was he ever an 8 era player in the first place?
i’m not saying he’s a 2.88 player, but he’s still a good pitcher.

not good enough
for the Devil Rays or Blue Jays. He’s below league average, at least going by his career numbers (rather than a two-month hot streak).

He had more innings pitched in that "hot streak"
than his career as a crappy pitcher. I’m not sure what’s worse, basing how good he is from 40 IP in ‘04 and 13 IP in ‘05 or a 100 IP “hot streak”. Sometimes it takes a while for pitchers to get comfortable pitching in the majors. He settled down as a good pitcher in ‘06, and continued to do well into the first half of ‘07 before he got injured.
