SATURDAY LONG BEACH PARTY BUS TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE
Hey, this looks pretty awesome - you all should know about it, especially if you live anywhere near Long Beach. Smooth's on Pine Avenue is sponsoring a party bus trip to Saturday's Angel Game against the Orioles on MAY 3.
Buy your tickets at the SMOOTH'S SPORTS GRILL website - they take Paypal! Considering that game tickets and parking would set you back $23 minimum anyway, this looks like a great value.

wow
I live 5 minutes walking from smooths. I am so there!
Wherever Red Sox Nation is, I just wish Bush would invade it.
That would be cool..
except I live 5 minutes from the stadium, so I’m not driving to Long Beach to get on that bus.
where do you live that is five minutes from the stadium?
just curious…cuz i want to live there….

it's a grand total of
5 miles from my front door to the stadium. I live in Fullerton, right off the 5 at Brookhurst.
This is an AWESOME idea!!
Would there be anyway to arrange something like this for South Orange County? Is anyone else interested in this? I would be happy to help organize!

Historically speaking it is fair to assume any game between these two teams will be decided by 3 runs or less.

i work right around the corner from Smooth’s. it’s a GREAT place to watch the game (tons of HDTVs). the food is good (i HIGHLY recommend the Super Nachos with chili), the service is excellent, and the waitresses are the prettiest girls i’ve seen in any establishment in Long Beach (including the Hooters two doors down).
if i wasn’t going to be out of town this weekend, i’d definitely be on the party bus. $50 sounds like a steal, especially since it’s all-you-can-drink on the bus. plus, a free dinner! crazy deal.

No worries...
I think they’re funny as well…call them ‘contrarian’ since I’m the entire season behind. All I’m relying on is a quick blowout, Ervin to be effective but slightly stressed, Scioscia’s vaunted Quinlan vs. lefty matchup, Scioscia’s penchant to let players redeem themselves, Bootcheck to be effective…oh…hmm, can I change my picks?

Off-topic: quirky stats
I know the sample sizes are small. I just want to irk the trolls. :-) (stat source: Hardball Times)
Garland ERA: 5.94
Garland FIP : 5.81
Garland xFIP: 4.98
Bedard ERA: 2.04
Bedard FIP : 5.91
Bedard xFIP: 4.99
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!
Non stad head dumb question...
what the heck is FIP and xFIP? Sounds like FIP got divorced and now has an xFIP…
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

Fielding-Independent Pitching (FIP)
Fielding Independent Pitching, a measure of all those things for which a pitcher is specifically responsible. The formula is (HR13+(BB+HBP-IBB)3-K*2)/IP, plus a league-specific factor (usually around 3.2) to round out the number to an equivalent ERA number. FIP helps you understand how well a pitcher pitched, regardless of how well his fielders fielded. FIP was invented by Tangotiger.
That quote is from http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/statpages/glossary/
more information about FIP can be found at http://www.tangotiger.net/drspectrum.html
xFIP is “Expected Fielding Independent Pitching. This is an experimental stat that adjusts FIP and “normalizes” the home run component. Research has shown that home runs allowed are pretty much a function of flyballs allowed and home park, so xFIP is based on the average number of home runs allowed per outfield fly. Theoretically, this should be a better predicter of a pitcher’s future ERA.”
