Casey
key hit & at least important defensive plays. A nod to Speier for getting into and out of a pair of jams. Honorable mention to K-Rod for a 1-2-3 9th.

I second this notion here
Casey definitely deserves the nod today as his leather and wood saved the day for the Halos.

I stick with K-Rod
for a dramaless 1-2-3 9th in a 1-run game.

ooooo this is tough
kotch did it with the bat and is a wizard with the glove, but i gotta go with ervin for 6.1 innings of 3 run ball and only giving up 6 hits

and key in winning today.

Ervin Santana pitching like Johan!
Detroit has by far the best offense on paper in the major leagues and Santana shut them down as well as you could hope for. Detroit is really hot right now, they have scored 29 runs in the last 2 days and 37 over the last 3. Santana, who has been bad on the road through his career, held the best offense in MLB to 3 runs in 6.1 innings (a QUALITY START). In addition, had Mike not pushed him back out there in the 6th after he had already pitched 100 pitches, he would have ended the game with a WHIP of 1.

Ervin; held an excellent Tigers lineup to just 3 runs
This Tigers lineup is incredible, especially with Granderson back. The FSN Detroit broadcast’s Player of the Game was Vlad.
Good starting pitching, clutch bullpen, nice D, and just enough runs. Very “Angels”-type team win.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

Kotchman, by a whisker...
...but whichever way you cut it, Santana has been on the money so far this year. Very happy indeed with the way he’s turned things around.

Ervin in my book
Fangraphs calls it Speier by a mile, but that just doesn’t make sense to me because he got himself into a couple jams and then got himself out. I’m a fan of the part of the save rule that says you don’t get to claim a save if you pitch yourself into the condition.

I am trying to get KLAA on the Internet to listen to Angels talk but when I click on their website, it says the address doesn’t exist. Did they change their web address? Anybody know.

Vlad vs. Miggy
Someone needs to look into Vlad vs. Miggy. I don’t know if the LA broadcast covered it, but when Vlad grounded out to end the first, Miggy was jawing at him (and he wasn’t joking) all the way back to the dugout. When Vlad homered, he definitely said something to Cabrera when he rounded first. Something’s going on there.

Cabrera was pissed about something. And it looked like something brewing. It’s not like Vlad tried to take him out at first or anything.

Gotta give my Panther to...
damn this was a hard one….
Ervin, gets the slight nod over CK…Ervin is really shutting us all up! Proving last year a fluke….I love it and for that simple reason he gets my Panther vote!

I vote for Ervin
Especially considering how his last start @Detroit went. Facing an even better lineup than last year, he could have melted down. He got into jams, but he minimized the damage. Bases juiced, 0 out, only giving up one run! Last year’s Ervin would have given up at least a 3-spot there. Besides, I think he needs some positive reinforcement to ensure more starts like this one.
Casey was clutch, though.

The Fact
that Santana’s Panther candidacy is even debatable following his quality+ start against this offense shows just how far he’s come.
Kotch snared two liners and also made a nifty play on Mathis’ attempted pickoff late in the game (which, had he missed it, would have put a runner in scoring position), and he had what turned out to be the game-winning knock. He gets my vote tonight. But I would not quibble if Ervin gets the nod.

PoG = Kotch
Great defense (snagging those liners and picking balls in the dirt) and clutch hitting (Go-ahead 2 RBI). This was a great opportunity for him to prove once and for all that he is NOT a platoon player, and he took advantage of it.
Props to Santana, too; he’s been awesome.
