I hate Joe Morgan.

“And then the California Angels, or should I say the Los Angeles Angels.”

It’s NOT FUNNY.

okay let me get this straight

the TAMPA BAY Rays don’t play in Tampa Bay (which is not a city at all), nor in the city of Tampa, but in Saint Petersburg but nobody gargles their team name, uh, okay…

by Rev Halofan on Apr 27, 2008 5:34 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Unfair

the Tampa Bay Rays have been named for Tampa Bay from day one…that was their team name the first time they ever played. Tampa Bay.

It’s not like the Angels were ever “Los Angeles” at any point in their team history. Not once ever. Not even for a day. Especially not on the first day they were a franchise. Especially not then.

I say that as someone who appreciates the IMMENSE amount of talent they have. I made a point to buy tickets for their series in Anaheim.

The fact is that the national media pays less attention to them than they do even to us.

Inconsistent.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Apr 27, 2008 5:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, inconsistent is the right word

should have used it before. But I think its inconsistent with a tight-leaning. Strikes are going back and forth between being called a ball or a strike, but no balls are being called strikes at some point.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Apr 27, 2008 5:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would agree.

But it wasn’t very tight on the first strike to Izturis. That ball is an inch or two off the plate on gameday. And to be fair to Granderson, the called strike three wasn’t really inside a tight zone either.

The difference between Jeter and Garret

for their careers, anyway (aside from ‘intangibles’ and ‘captain’ bullshit) is, statistically, a couple hundred walks.

I wouldn’t vote for one and not the other on the grounds that one walked a lot more. Especially with Garret having a slight edge in power and a great edge in fielding.

We're watching at Athletics Nation

Drinking and laughing, hoping we can be in first place by the end of April.

Har, we’ll be there at the end of May too! If Harden comes back, an event as likely as yours truly becoming a chick magnet choosing a new yacht this summer.

Ah well, baseball is often just a form of delusions anyway. It is in Oakland, usually. Good luck, SoCal.

Yeah, but

this one sounds more like a tweak where they took extra precaution than anything else. The rest of his injuries were freakish, and he doesn’t have anything chronic in the past.

It's not a terrible record to hold

or certainly not as bad as it sounds.

You have to get a lot of men on to do it, and make a lot of contact. We’ve proven thus far that GIDP tendencies and good offenses can run hand-in-hand.

I love the Angels getting as much recognition as possible

but Joe Morgan is sorta full of shit if he thinks that Scioscia doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. If there is one guy affiliated with the team that does get a ton of credit, it’s always him. He’s got one manager of the year award, and consideration for it every other season…everyone credits him with the team being as good as it is.

Scioscia does a lot of things well but he is by far the most overrated person when it comes to the Angels. Scot Shields was for years the best reliever no one knew, Escobar was a top 5 starter and got very little recognition.

and he saw what I saw: GMJ didn’t do anything wrong other than lose his balance in getting up from third, right as Guillen tried to run a circle around him.
