Random game comments/observations from Section 331
Maybe the most boring game I’ve witnessed since Kevin Millwood shut us out one time when he was in Cleveland.
Rajai Davis is FAST
Aybar is not a downgrade defensively from OC
Vlad’s swing is long and he didn’t look good at the plate, still was about 1 foot shy of ripping an HR down the LF line in the 1st. Liked the effort on that catch down the RF line.
The sheer gargantuanousness of Frank Thomas never ceases to amaze me
The Oakland starting lineup tonight should be embarrassing for them, it really was laughable. This team is playing was over their head, they will not even sniff the pennant race.
blahblahblah Why is does Quinlan platoon with Casey sometimes blahblahblah
Got a laugh when Brandon Wood was oblivious to the little girl trying to yank 3rd base out of the ground during the “Steal 3rd” race thing they do, he didn’t help her and some guy helped her get it out. Aybar gave Wood some crap for that and they laughed.
Frank Thomas’ foul rip down the 3rd base line off Frankie was definitely fair, my seats are right in line with the 3rd base line behind home. It went right over the bag. Big break for us.
AL hitters are slowly learning to hate the Colonel, like the dad from “So I Married An Axe Murderer”
Stuart – “Oh how I hate the The Colonel, with his wee beady eyes and that smug look on his face. `Ohhh you’re gonna buy my chicken, ohhh’”
Charlie – “Dad, how can you hate “The Colonel?”
Stuart – “Because he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that make you crave it fortnightly, smartass!

You missed Rex Hudler's interview with Goose Gossage.

You nailed it Mcgee.
I was sitting in section 123, right next to the Diamond Club, and almost everything that came to mind last night you’ve mentioned here. Nice work man.
Aybar looks real good defensively. He’s really got a gun over there at short, and that final play of the game was thrilling.
I missed Kotchman last night as well. He should be in there every day.
Frank Thomas is a monster. I mean, he’s like Travis Hafner huge. One thing that cracked me up all night was Thomas, who seemed to be having a running conversation with himself and anyone else who’d listen. He K’d going after a high fastball, and he was smiling and talking during every subsequent AB. He was clearly having a great time, and it was fun watching him play. That shot he hit down the third base line was clearly fair. The umpiring in the late innings was absolutely ridiculous. The home plate umpire was a joke.
Brandon Wood looks pretty clueless out there. To everything around him. That single he got last night was a gift from god, he looked fooled and stuck his bat out there and made contact somehow. Yippee.
About Oakland: I agree about the offense. There is just no way they can hold up over the course of an entire season. No way. About their pitching though: Billy Beane must be a witch or something. Every year this guy unloads his top pitchers, and every year some new kids come up and perform tremendously. This kid last night matched Saunders pitch for pitch, and the only thing that separated the two of them was the wild pitch Smith threw that let the first run score. the second run came on a subsequent ground out. And that was it. He had our number all night long. It was quite a pitching duel. And then Frankie came in and almost gave it up. But Oakland’s young pitching is very impressive.
It was a very quick game due to the lack of offense, but the wife and I had a tremendously good time, it was a great night at the park, and the 9th inning was tension filled. Great time.

Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

Saunders
Who is that masked man?
I mean, the guy has continually given us wins, but who really knew?
I guess, maybe, he is the real deal.
Wow.

Saunders is the unanimous panther...
With my late arrival to the park, this was a VERY SHORT game! Shame on me for having to umpire a little league contest at 5:30PM. On the positive side, parking ended up being FREE! Woo hoo!

Did GTA4 come out last night or something?
Wondering why the scant “attendance” in HH’s game thread and in the post-game threads…
The only video game I still play is my NES Super Tecmo Bowl. Kicks ass. Nothing else will ever touch that level of video game enjoyment.

Super Tecmo Bowl is indeed a classic...
I used to be unstoppable in that game by running sweeps with Bo Jackson every play. And like you, no gaming console, no matter how technologically and graphically superior, will ever provide me with a level of enrichment as that of the NES.
It also helps that I stopped playing video games altogether, “coincidentally,” when I got married…
