Great pitching and defense...

conquerers all. Lets finish them off tomorrow. Great game boys, Saunders was a PANTHER.

You guys in California really do live in heaven, the Angels are in town for more than just six games and there is Jack in the Box within 200 miles.

Myspacscobar has only one shoulder...maybe he could throw left handed....?

great close win.

hopefully this creates one of those the-next-pitcher-outdoes-the-previous-pitcher things and we roll.

Too many hours at work due to Spring Break, and hubby is out with Ministry right now.. I'm ready to go anytime... (weekdays are better now, since I have Tues and Wed off PERMANENTLY!)

Washburn versus Santana.

Washburn pushed back to the fourth game.

Silva is pitching tonight against Texas.

80 pitches?!

in 8 full? Wow. Way to be Colonel.

Aybar looked amazing turning all those DP's. The dude's got a cannon for an arm and had no business making that 2nd turn with Morneau (I think) barreling down on him. The bat will come and he definitely showed flashes of the brilliant defense we've been promised.

Great defensive win (even with 2 errors).

We'll be fine.

Wow. Saunders, Wow.

He's looked just pure brilliant for all of Spring and now this. Wondering how much that Spring mechanical adjustment really helped...

Wake me up on opening day.

Nice!

Way to go Joe! Turing 2 is a beautiful thing! Nice D. Frankie Percival, little nervy but handled business!

by Hacksaw4 on Apr 2, 2008 8:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

i agree

the double play ground balls were huge for Joe the entire game, also they sure were beautiful

by haloforlife on Apr 2, 2008 9:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

how is..

..letting only 1 runner get to even first base really that dramatic.. I realize it was a 1-run game, but everybody is acting like he had the bases loaded with no outs..

Definitely panther for the colonel!! Yeah Hokie Joe!!

Maybe

Because he walked the leadoff hitter on 4 pitches.

by billhune on Apr 2, 2008 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

umm

walking the 9 hitter on 4 pitches and needing a scummy strike out from bad bunting to avoid having the tie run on 2nd with mauer and morneau coming up? ya, nothing to worry about at all.

by ihearhowie2.0 on Apr 2, 2008 10:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

okay..

..but the fact of the matter is he did get three straight outs after allowing the lead-off walk.. don't get me wrong, the 4 pitch walk made me wonder, but he got it done right after that, regardless of how (bad bunting), he did it and it wasn't THAT stressful..

Good fortune

Frankie got some good fortune with that out on the foul bunt.

by HungryHunter on Apr 3, 2008 6:41 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

because the best..

pitchers aren't ever blessed with the good fortune of a batter getting themselves out..

Of course they do

Nobody is arguing about whether Frankie is a good closer. But he was OFF last night. He walked the first guy on FOUR pitches and he got an EASY out on the 2nd batter. Don't read more into what is being written.

Rev or anyone...

please check if we have the fewest CG's thrown by a starting pitching staff the last 5 years. No way Joe shouldn't finish a game like that.

by SCHalo on Apr 2, 2008 8:52 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree Saunders should have had the opportunity to get a complete game under his belt...

however... it was also important to get K-Rod some action, can you remember the last time he pitched?

by haloforlife on Apr 2, 2008 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

CG

Saunders should have at least gotten a shot at a cg, if he puts a runner on, then pull him. Instead, they put Frankie in who walks the leadoff hitter, then has the second batter out on a foul bunt only and then induces a double play.

I realize that Frankie needs some work but pulling Saunders after 80 pitches was ridiculous.

by HungryHunter on Apr 2, 2008 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

early in the season?

maybe it's a protective move to save his arm for the long haul (especially the immediate long haul of Lackey and Escobar out)?

by yeswecan on Apr 2, 2008 9:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

good point

i didn't even consider that

by haloforlife on Apr 2, 2008 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

With that in mind-

Good call Mike.

Not to mention that Saunders is the guy on this staff who has traditionally had problems with his arm wearing out.

thank you billhune

didn't know we had that many, wow!!!!

Wow.

I was not expecting Saunders to top Garland. I guess that's what a guaranteed spot will do for your confidence.
