1986 Champagne!
My Sporting News Strat-O-Matic 1986 California Angels clinched the American League Western Division tonight with a win over Kansas City. We are the first team to get a playoff berth. The Curt Schilling-managed Red Sox have been eliminated n the East where a 3-team battle between Detroit - managed by Sean Forman (co- founder of BaseballRefference.com) - The Yankees - managed by Bill Daughtry (of ESPN Radio New York) - and Toronto, managed by the Blue Jays bloggers "The Ladies".
Here is a list of the noted team managers my Angels defeated. I am proud to have done us proud.

I have no idea what you are talking about
But if you done us proud, then you have continued the Angel tradition!

Congratulations Rev...
...but looking at the stats for your team for the year, there’s one that sticks out a mile.
Whose computer’s USB port did you have to fellate to get it to give Dick Schofield 20 HRs? I’m not sure in the wildest dreams of ‘80s Angels fans far and wide any of us would have realistically had him down for 20.
I saw him play a lot in my earliest visits to the Big A and I rarely saw the guy get the ball out of the infield, let alone the ballpark. You’ve been hacking the network, haven’t you?

The flaw of strat
is that if you land on a bad pitcher’s card, his inadequacies transfer to the batter no matter how impossible the matchup outcome could be.

p.s. I hope you've been good enough...
...not to rub Jeff’s nose in it (much).

Jeff didn't really have anything to work with
Adam from Lonestar should have been the closest competition based on the 86 standings – the guy managing the A’s, Bill Janssen is a top Strat player in the world, he knew the levers and knobs gaming of the system better than all of us!

NY or DET
We did well enough against the Yankees and Detroit, I think the Blue Jays had my number.

You went...
7-5 against both the Tigers and Blue Jays
4-8 against the Yankees, having lost the last 5 in a row
I think playing the Tigers would be better than playing the Yankees

Then Go Tigers and/or Jays I guess
I knew I had gotten hit hard by one of those teams.

“the magic number is zero!”
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

So is it safe to say now
that Schilling is faking his injury so that he could manage his team in this league?

I could totally see that asshole playing WoW. Just like my freshman year roommate. Who somehow still got better grades than I did.

Oh, Schilling actually plays Warcraft. He's a well-known online RPG dork. Like for real.

Doesn’t he want to make his own RPG thing too?

No BoSox Champ?
I was looking forward to you planting a fastball in Dave Henderson’s forehead during the ALCS. Oh well.

Thanks Rev! That 1986 team was one of my all time favorites.
Schofield? 20 homers? Why not! :)
Here are two of his home runs from 1986; an opposite field shot against the A’s and a memorable one from Game 3 of the ALCS.

How I forgot...
what it was like to not have music and fireworks during a home run trot. You can actually hear fans cheering and admiring the homerun hitter, not the fireworks display.
