Matthew Brown Called Up
Catcher Bobby Wilson Sent down after going 1-1 in the bigs and having a sip of coffee with his team mate in both the bigs and High School, Casey Kotchman.
Brown was lighting up AAA with a .425 Batting Average and with 6 HRs, 3 Triples, and 11 Doubles.
*LAAngels.com says Mark Brown was called up but there aint no Mark Brown only Matt and D.
Wood at 3B or Matt Brown? Who would you rather have.
Oh and just a question to entertain you all (since I need to write more) and it will probably piss some people off but who would rather have Barry Bonds in our lineup over Anderson? This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

I think its fun watching Wood's At Bats. Kind of like watching McPherson but from the other side.
So I’ll take Wood at 3B. As for DH I would have in order Bonds, Rivera, then Anderson.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i kinda want
to see Brown, seeing how he’s tearing it up in AAA. Does having Brown up here mean that HK47 is further away and Izzy is hurt worse than we think? Cause it seems to me that they’re counting on having Figgy at 2B for a while, needing a starter and backup for 3B?

Just another though....maybe Brown will DH, Wood at 3B, HGH in LF and Anderson to the bench for a couple games.

They're working on the 2009 team.
The biggest unanswered question in my mind is the where-abouts of Figgins/Rivera in ‘09. Matt Brown is probably Q’s replacement. SRod possibly that for Izturis. With all the talent we have, I find it very difficult to imagine who we might realistically want to trade for.

I know random stats don't really mean anything
But according to fangraphs.com, GA is second-worse in the league among qualified players (I’m not sure but I assume this means 3.1 AB/game) in WPA at -1.13. This means he’s accounted for about 2 and a quarter losses so far on the season. Only Adam LaRoche is worse, and he’s hitting .165 with an OPS under .500.

Here’s an explanation of WPA:

Kotch
Is our leading hitter at .96 (or about 2 wins), which is right on with his 2 panthers as well.
According to this, Saunders is actually carrying our staff with a major-league leading (among pitchers) 1.96, or about 4 wins. Frankie’s second on our staff at .66. Garland is bringing up the rear at -.85. At least he’s not Barry Zito (-1.59).
Obviously this stat doesn’t mean very much because it doesn’t account for defense, matchups, or situations, but it’s interesting to look at.

those of you who selected Bonds
you have no respect for a great Angel. He has done so much for this team, and you give him no respect.

okaaay
Why not just DH Salmon or Grich then?
His great Angel service has nothing to do with it, it’s all about who will help us win in 2008.
GA’s 2008 salary is meaningless, it’s already spent.
I wouldn’t sign Bonds unless the price was right, and he agreed to play ball by Sciocia’s rules.

Chili Davis was a great Angels DH...
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

Plenty of respect
Problem is, they are trying to “win” and GA is not participating! He needs to shake out of it quckly or the younger guys are going to show him the door! This is just the way baseball works! What have you done for me lately? I don’t make this stuff up.
There is some patience, but it has limits…what is that limit? I suspect GA is going to get some time into mid May…he breaks out of it by then or…

I respect GA
I just wish he would retire, because he’s “done”
Do not trade Howie!!!

Are you saying
He’s more done than Bonds? That sounds a least a little short sighted since Barroid isn’t even playing for anyone.
We take serious...comedically.

Bonds would have an OPS over 1.000 this year
If he weren’t such a ‘roided-out jerk he’d be winning games for somebody right now.
GA is more done than Bonds. Unless he figures out how to hit offspeed pitches this season, he’s gonna get nothing but crap low and away, and he’‘ll bounce it to the second baseman. I don’t understand why he was so good in the second half last season and so bad now.

I think
while Howie is out (any word on his return yet?) we should give the younger guys a shot at third, giving Figgy an occasional day off with Maicer as a sub. It would be great to see these guys develop a little bit and get some experience, especially this early in the season. Just my opinion…

I'll be interested in watching
all of you GA naysayers singing his praises when he has another second half like he had last season.
GA is kinda like a fine artist… he’s just not appreciated in his own time.

I think he is going to snap out of it...
But, I think he is having a hard time adjusting to being a DH. That’s a lot of downtime waiting and doing nothing but thinking about your last at-bat.
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

I too
believe he’s just in a bad slump. I was on the “GA is done” bus last year, but when he got healthy, he showed that he still had something left to contribute. He’s supposedly healthy right now; thus, although it’s possible that he is indeed finished, I’m willing to give him a bit more time to snap out of it. Then again, without Nathan Haynes (a/k/a, the Halos’ real hitting coach) around, maybe it’s just not going to happen.
I’m far more disturbed by the number of ABs given to GMJr., especially as a DH. Here’s a guy who, save for one season, is a career .249 hitter. Here’s a guy who, even WITH that one aberrant year, has a below league-average OPS+ for his career. He’s just not a very good hitter. Never has been, and never will be.

Currently...
...we have the worst production at DH in the league.

Too many Ks
He just strikes out too much for the two hole. He doesn’t see enough pitches. He doesn’t have the makeup of a number two hitter. I’m with you 100% on the GMJ thing.

the jury's still out on my man GA
i remember last year around the all-star break, when people were chirping this same tune (“get rid of GA….”). then he went on a tear and knocked in more RBI in the second half than anyone else in baseball.
he’s definitely not “done”, but only time will tell. certainly scioscia needn’t put him in the #4 or #5 spot again until he starts to heat up.

Anderson or Bonds?
That is LOW. Seriously, you shoud be ashamed of yourself.
Watch out for Bats.

Kinda funny...
but not really. Poor kid went 0-4, 3 Ks, and 2 errors last night. That’s a bad night.
When you’re getting a standing ovation for making a fairly routine play that you still almost botched with a 5 run lead in the top of the 9th, it’s been a bad night.
