Mariners cut Wilkerson and Norton
According to the AP, right fielder Brad Wilkerson and pinch-hitter Greg Norton were cut Wednesday by the Seattle Mariners, who promoted catching prospect Jeff Clement and power-hitting outfielder Wladimir Balentien from Triple-A Tacoma.
Wilkerson signed a $4 million, one-year contract before spring training. He was batting .232 with five RBIs in 19 games. The team has 10 days to trade Wilkerson and Norton, release them or assign them to outright to the minor leagues.
So much for the M's not missing Adam Jones and Guillen...

saw that coming a mile away
The question is what have they done with Mike “I suck at everything baseball-related” Morse?

I thought he had season-ending surgery...
just after the series against the Angels up in Seattle.
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.

I have been dreading this day for some time
Mariner fan I will lay this out for you as simply as I can:
There is only one VLAD. He is a surefire hall of famer and has honed his nickname through many amazing years of play.
Your nice little prospect Wladimir, is not nicknamed Wlad (pronounced Vlad) he already missed the boat on this one. In future if you refer to him as Wlad/Vlad no one will know what you are talking about unless they happen to reside in Seattle.
I suggest a new nickname is in order for your shiny new right fielder.

Maybe we could respond...
by referring to Torii Hunter as Ichiro?
by G&C on Apr 30, 2008 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
His OPS is too high to be called Ichiro

SMART MOVES
I was hoping they would have let Vidro/Wilkerson linger or get hot and impulsively trade the kids for “veteran leadership” ...

I dont remember anyone saying that we WOULDNT miss Jones/Guillen..
In fact it was quite the opposite.. And I dont think Vladimir is the first to be called Vlad, and wont be the last (aside from the point that he was probably ‘Vlad’ in Montreal so you should really be more original with his nickname.) Speaking of copying nicknames… King Ade Rock? hmm.. King Felix sounds better.

116 wins sound better too....
but we all know how that turned out.

I dont see the connection..
116 wins sounds better than… King Felix? Were talking about nicknames. You dont make sense.
And we all know what can happen in a short series, looking at how many Wild Card teams have had success in the playoffs. Were the 06 Cardinals really the best team in the league? Not even close.

i'll try to help you see it
i was making reference to what “sounds better.” you like King Felix better (in my example, let say he’s the 116 wins). we like King Ade Rock (he’s say….99 wins but will be holding a world series trophy). in the end, we’re better.
by SCHalo on May 1, 2008 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Still doesnt make sense..
King Felix = 116 wins + no world series, Adenhard = 99 wins + World Series? If you say so.. If you wanted to say 99 wins and world series sounds better than 116 wins and no world series, then yeah, makes obvious sense. But it has nothing to do with either player.

Seriously dude
You’re over here arguing about a friggin nickname? Why can’t you Mariners fans be more like Oakland fans and know your goddamn role? Even after the pounding we took Monday night, not one single (that I saw anyway) Oakey fan came over here to start meaningless shit. And here you are, a c*nt hair away from being irrelevant and instead of wasting bandwidth on your team’s blog discussing your team’s needs to improve beyond a perennial dick tease, you’re on the enemy’s blog arguing over a nickname??
Fuck’s sake get a life.

How does mariner fan know what can happen in a short series?
Have the Mariners even been in one?

Well lets see..
162 game season.. Around 50 a year I believe.
by seamariners85 on May 1, 2008 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was talking about the playoffs
I’ll give you a pass though as Mariner fan does not know much about those.
FYI a 3 game series is pretty much the standard length during the regular season. Not really a short series.

King?
Who priccess?
As far as Vlad, Guerrero was the first and the only that will be in the hall of fame. Perhaps Mariner fan should be more original.

"I am no longer irritating!"
That was the dumbest commercial ever and it was starring Vlade Deepcrotch.
Right up there with the Fernando Valenzuela “Be smart, stay in school” ads when the guy could hardly speak a word of English.

I don't know...
The Monster Mac commercials with him and AC Green were pretty bad. I think they had people calling for Jerry Buss to pay Vlade and AC more, so they wouldn’t have to air those commercials any more.

Difference is....
King Ade-Rock is a play on the Beastie Boy’s King Ad-Rock, yours, well, it was just a title handed to him by the media and has made him and easy target for the most part.

No joke
How did Felix Hernandez get them to start calling him that? He’s a freakin’ kid. A talented kid, no doubt. One I certainly wouldn’t mind having in our rotation. But King Felix? There’s only one King in baseball pitching, and that’s Nolan Ryan. The strikeout King.
