Athletics @ Angels THURSDAY GAME THREAD
Oakland Athletics @ Los Angeles Angels
You know what I like about the Oakland Athletics? They are more likely moving to Portland than to Fremont. Here is a look at their fanbase driving home from the game.
Oh yeah, bet on Portland.
I'm gnawing on the knowledge that I have been burned

Rex and Steve's Microphones were off
in the pregame show. Back on and it is just the stadium noise!

Rex & Steve on tranqs?
Usually they’re attempting to shout at the top of their lungs; now it’s as if they’re doing the thorazine shuffle in the booth. WTF?

Since Ortiz lied about his age
and Ryan routinely had 13+ K/9’s in the minors, I’m not going out on a limb to say, neither.
Off the top of my head, I’m guessing he becomes a sort of Matt Morris type - a right-handed Jarrod Washburn, if you will - a righty-with-guile type who doesn’t miss enough bats to be a great pitcher but will have a good major league career.

With a fastball already at 93-94?
There’s no reason he couldn’t miss more bats once his control improves. He has good movement and good offspeed.

He is on the team because Scioscia wants him on the team.
Until you all are in charge of the lineups, quit bitchin’ about Q. That’s all we hear every time the guy plays and it is GETTING OLD, VERY OLD OK?

12 pitch first inning
not bad since they didn’t get to see a lot of pitches

RICH LEDERER
When they show the isolated shot of a Right Handed Batter in the box, BASEBALL ANALYST writer Rich Lederer is clearly visible sitting in the front row above the Angel dugout perched on the batter’s front shoulder.

Typical Duchscherer inning
against us. The question is whether he can keep it up. Man I hate junkballers though. I don’t understand why this team can’t seem to hit them.

Four-pitch walk = bad, kid.
Also, Napoli, WTF @ calling four pitches on a corner that the ump is clearly not calling?

throw some strikes kid.

Napoli needs to set up in the middle of the plate
and leave the target there. This kid isn’t Saunders or Santana.

Not good
Over on AN, they were saying that the best strategy against Adenhart would be to simply take pitches. Looks like they’re right.
by jjackflash on May 1, 2008 7:30 PM PDT 0 recs
Yikes.
Looks like question #1 is going to be a wash today.

Dude cannot throw a strike to save his behind
Once the guy got a hit and he had to pitch from the stretch it was all downhill … 39 pitches and counting … 40
by Rev Halofan on May 1, 2008 7:33 PM PDT 0 recs
Well, we can take this one of two ways
A) Adenhart really blows this much.
B) Adenhart is suffering from nerves, and the fact that he’s pitching on three days rest.
~Till the Halo burns out...
by Zu Long on May 1, 2008 7:33 PM PDT 0 recs
More Likely B
and seriously, giving the guy his first MLB start on 3 days’ rest seemed, ahead of time, to be a completely stupid idea.

just going by gameday here, so I don’t know what the pitches look like, but yeah. Curve is the only thing thrown for a strike.
