Good news and bad news from Bill Plunkett...
Bad: Figgins may be headed to the DL after today’s game
Good: Kendry could be replacing Figgy on the roster. And Aybar seems to be alright.

The lines are short, but short to straightaway left and right. It's only 370 to the alleys.

Kazmir might be the best lefty starter in all of baseball.

Let Pena off the hook.
This is how you got yourself in trouble in the first, Joe.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
We already have half the Bees hitters up here.
Which is why they’ve slowed down in May.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
*Sigh*
Nice try Juan.
Kotch, we need a good AB here.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
The Angels hitters have been weakened by the environment.
An environment saturated by Early Bird dinner specials, Metamucil, Lincoln Town Cars travelling 20 mph below the speed limit, prune juice, and Matlock reruns. It takes its toll.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!
Angels need to go back to the small ball blueprint.
Infield hit. Steal 2nd. Groundout to 2nd to advance the runner to 3rd. Squeeze play to get the runner home.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!
Remember that time our team could get a freakin' hit?
Yeah, me neither.

that ball wasn't quite to the cutoff man
when srod was rounding 3rd. why’d he stop?
"Here we go baby, 'bout f***'n' time!"
Better question is why hadn't he scored already?
Two outs, he should have been gone on contact.
~Till the Halo burns out...
The line is too short. The ball doesn't go very far once it gets in the corner.
In LAA that’s probably a run.

Even with that
I was just reviewing Sean Rodriguez’s minor league numbers. His bat is streaky as hell, but the kid knows how to take a walk. If he plays his cards right, he might end up ahead of Wood on the depth chart.

Smart move to hold the ball there
rather than try for an impossible play.

Even against Kazmir and Shields,
we should be able to score a run or 2 in 15 innings, Halos. Get it together.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
Yeah, but even Hunter and Kotch are a combined
0-10 in the series thus far.

you're correct

I cannot believe we're going to lose twice in a row when the pitching staff gives up 2 runs.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
So our pitching comes in ridiculously strong
and our offense becomes about as bad as humanly possible.
This was supposed to be a series to help pad our record for the long haul, not to disappear into mediocrity.
I really, really, really hate baseball sometimes.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on May 10, 2008 6:49 PM PDT reply actions
The Rays ARE good this year though.
I mean, you had to figure the games would be tough. But I in no way expected our offense to just fail like this.
~Till the Halo burns out...
They're not good
they’re just not bad. Juxtaposed with seasons past, they look amazing though.
Still, we should have taken two of three, easy.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on May 10, 2008 6:52 PM PDT up reply actions
How not good?
Shields and Kaz are good starters. They have some good young hitters, and Percy has turned the bullpen around. They’re a good team. Not as good as we are (or should be) but still good.
~Till the Halo burns out...
They have good players
but they’re not yet a “good team.” 2/5ths of a rotation, and a mediocre bullpen mixed with some lineup holes. They’ll finish the season at or under .500, which is an improvement for them, but not yet good…not to say they won’t be soon, of course.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on May 10, 2008 9:33 PM PDT up reply actions
But I should also clarify
that I don’t think you and I are really disagreeing on anything at all here, besides the rather subjective word “good.” We both recognize that TB is a rapidly improving, young team who is getting better by the day/week/month/season, but whom we should have nonetheless should have been able to dispatch of twice in three days.
