Wood Down Brown Up
<!--StartFragment-->
According to the salt lake bees website it looks like Scioscia has seen enough out of B. Wood, for now, and is sending down the strikeout prone 3B/SS and is going to give Matt Brown another shot. I think that this is a good move. Although Wood did not have enough A.B. to give up on the kid, our punch less offense needs a little more help and I think Brown deserves another opportunity to prove himself. Here’s to hoping that Brown has a better outing then he did last time.

One of these days
The guy we bring up will come out smoking.

What can Brown do for you?
He can come out smoking hot…does anyone remember that shot he hit over the 2b head in the 8th or 9th inning a week or two ago…line drive was hit so hard it went to the wall…on grass! He was sent down after the game! Time to pick up where he left off…

Anyone not named Quinlan.
Sea-at-ha-ha-ha that's funny.

If they want something out of Wood
they can’t keep treating him like this. The guy’s game requires he be given consistent time to go through an adjustment period at this level. If Scioscia really thinks he’s ever going to mature at the Major League level by shuffling him back and forth and not playing him everyday, then he’s essentially a guaranteed bust. Our offense does need an immediate punch, so I don’t disagree per se, but this is not how he’s going to mature at the highest level.

Let him do it at Salt Lake
He has GOT to prove he can consistently keep his whiff rate down, and not just over the course of a month or two, too. He’s striking out in about a third of his at-bats (again!) after he made some progress on that topic last year. I have absolutely no faith that he’ll learn much of anything in the high-elevation, hitter-friendly PCL, though.
Witty .sig goes here.

That's fine, too
but the constant back-and-forth jerking of him isn’t helping anything. To develop consistency, you need to play consistently, and he hasn’t been getting that chance at either level. And I have a sneaking suspicion that this is about to happen again in the very near future.
I was following Wood at AAA this year before his call-up, though. His Ks are back up, but his OPS was solid after sinking last year. Also, what I noticed is that he K’d a TON at the beginning of the season, and was starting to get it in check right before the call-up. He struck out 19 times in his first 47 at-bats, and only 10 times in his last 41. I can live with a 1K/4AB rate, honestly.

in their defense
what were they supposed to do in light of the injuries? they needed 3B AND SS depth with izturis and figgins both gone and wood was a healthy body.
im pretty sure they werent hoping to have to play sean rodriguez, wood, brown, and adenhart all in the first 2 months of the season.

I actually am fine with Wood getting playing time in the majors
I just want it to be CONSISTENT playing time.

This is my sentiment exactly!
Let Wood play everyday…either here or SLC…stop f’ing around with him before we ruin him!

Robb Quinlan's mom and dad found our poll, guys.

the Q should be at third
2/3’s of the time (for now)
never at first
wood, now brown can come in late for defense
Q is our utility player
if he contnues to fail after half the season, then dfa him
the pharo is our first replacement
but he’s not here
now pile-on Q-haters
Who goofed? I've got to know.

Wasn't "Wood Down Brown Up"
the B-side to an early 2 Live Crew single? I may be misremembering…

Wood
Is in a peculiar situation, where the Angels can afford to put certain young players on the field, but can’t afford to be patient with someone whom they see is the future – but has an apparent hole in his game. They want Wood to succeed in the worst possible way but they can’t afford to give him at-bats if he is not going to make contact and mash like he has shown in the minor leagues or at least show a better approach [than just an all-or-nothing K show] at the plate.

This is why Quinlan is on the roster
Quinlan is on the team because of his bat. Really. And, because he is somewhat versatile. Quinlan HAS shown – at the big league level – the ability to get hot for prolonged periods of time (.287, .344, .321). It never happened last year. It might not happen this year. Yes, we may get stuck with the .231 or .247 version of Robb. But I would give him the best shot for now.
