Orlando Cabrera
There was an interesting tidbit in the LA Times yesterday on Orlando. I really miss that guy and his energy. Apparently he misses us as well. Hopefully he will find his in Chicago.

"The transition to Chicago hasn't been easy for Orlando Cabrera, not because the White Sox shortstop is struggling to adjust to a new team, but because he misses his former club..."

I miss the little guy.......He was always playing at 5000% on the field.
The wizard of O.C. is still the Wizard of O.C. in my books. I read the story last night too and got a little sad. He thinks Mike Scioscia is the BEST MANAGER in baseball hands down, no competition.
He reminds me of an animal in a shelter where he had a home with he loved then got abandoned and taken into an alright home. The story made me remember about Tod (the fox) in The Fox and the Hound when they take him to the game preserve.
Song
“We met, it seems, such a short time ago
You looked at me – needing me so
Yet from your sadness
Our happiness grew
And I found out I needed you too
I remember how we used to play
I recall those rainy days
The fire’s glow
That kept us warm
And now I find – we’re both alone
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart is a memory
And there you’ll always be”

Don’t try any funny business this week mister.
Please go away Justin Speier. Your work here is done. And take Quinlan's 4 inch fielding radius with you.

Acuda, that was the greatest, most poignant, post I've ever read!
I’m having my Alan Alda moment right now and I need a tissue and a glass of White Zinfandel. I feel ….... pussified.
"The blues is losing someone you love and not having enough money to immerse yourself in drink." (Henry Rollins)
Wow, acuda, that was indeed impressive...
I am also compelled to post my sheer astonishment in response to your analogy and offer my heartfelt condolences. I sincerely hope that the “fire’s glow keeps you warm in these rainy days.” :D
Seriously though, do you have the song lyrics committed to memory, or did you cut and paste them? Hilarious!

I like how a post about Juan Rivera ...
turns into an Acuda bashing contest! Comedy!
Arte, please buy the Angels back from the Red Sox...they've owned us long enough.
OOps...
Orlando Cabrera … not Juan Rivera. Duh. Asleep at the wheel.

For what it's worth...
I wasn’t bashing—the post reminded me of conversations among friends and I years ago during encounters with the little smoke. It also made me laugh during an otherwise shit day at the office…
Regarding OC and the article, I feel for him as well. The bit about Sosh being the “best manager” particularly stood out and made me wonder what Cabrera thinks about playing for a blowhard in Ozzie Guillen.

Cabrera was good to the Angels
and the Angels were good to Cabrera but in the end he was simply in the way of too many up and comers. Aybar is a better fielder at SS and may well end up being better with the bat as well, if he isn’t already. Behind Aybar you’ve got Wood and Rodriguez who will both be ML ready real soon. Picture the Angels with a homegrown infield of Kotchman, Kendrick, Aybar and Wood with Brown, Rodriguez and Morales as backups. I can see this happening by next year, with still more homegrown players on the roster.
Catcher, of course, Napoli and Mathis with Wilson knocking at the door. Pitchers: Weaver, Santana, Saunders, Lackey, KRod, Shields, Adenhart, O’Day, Green and Arredondo. OF: Willits, Evans and Morales (again). I’d like to see an OF of Figgins, Hunter and Rivera with Willits, Evans and Morales as backups and Vlad at DH. By next year we could have a 25 man roster with about 90% homegown talent.

I actually had an area in my heart that hated OC...
he helped the Red Sox get a ring in ‘04.

I visited Northeastern in 2005
at which point the “manny’s gonna leave omg!!1” hysteria was in full swing. The entire city had just jumped on the bandwagon for the first time in almost 90 years and literally everything about it made me cringe. I needed a way to combat that, and the only way I could win arguments with idiots over baseball was to start watching it myself.
If the Red Sox hadn’t won in ‘04, the pink hat-wearing fans wouldn’t have been crying in the street over Manny, and I wouldn’t have found any need to pick a team and start watching.
Part of me is grateful, but I also remember how much more free time I had before I started occupying 4 hours of my day with baseball. Not to mention the lower stress levels. Baseball also turned into a gateway sport, so now I watch everything, which means I spend some portion of every day on the edge of my seat watching a game.
