Derrick Turnbow, former Angel farmhand, who comes complete with 15.63 ERA and 3.95 WHIP in 6 1/3 IP this year (6.13 in the last three years), has been designated for assignment by the not exactly pitching rich Milwaukee Seligs...er, Brewers. Remember when fans were furious that the Angels let him go? Umm...yeah. In 10 days, he could be had for the major league minimum! Any takers? Perhaps he should go back to using steroids. He could be the next Eric Gagne. Oh, wait...

THIS IS CLASSIC
...folks who are bitching about the back-end of our bullpen should look around … there is a LOT of roster filler – oh quick let’s compalin about Turnbow – or better yet, how about Joel Peralta? Oh his ERA is over 10? Oh.
Yea, but...
all offseason what we heard about was how phenomenal the back end of our bullpen was supposed to be. We have a good bullpen overall, but it’s just not what it was supposed to be yet. Now, on that note, I think that much like Vlads and GAs hitting, the bullpen will round out to become what it was supposed to be all season. But so far, it just hasn’t quite measured up.
Good, but not great.
"Back end"
Do you mean Shields, Speier, and Frankie? Or Moseley, Bootcheck, and <mumble>?
Witty .sig goes here.
Joel Peralta
I would MUCH rather have Peralta than about half the Angels pen. His ERA is 6.75 but his ratios are not bad at all. 8 IP 9 H 1 BB 9K. Tell me you wouldn’t rather have that than what we witnessed yesterday. Especially when he came off a season with a 3.8 ERA in almost 88 IP.
Peralta should not have been let go.
why not sign peralta and or turnbow, stick em in AAA and call em up if theyre doing good?
Quinlan and Mosely for Carlos Marmol!
Gotta sign Turnbow
So those who picked up cheap Turnbow jerseys at the Angels’ yard sale can get some value from them!
I think the Crew is hoping that he’ll clear waivers, take the assignment down to Nashville (Brewers’ AAA affiliate) and get his head straightened out. If he gets picked up by some insane GM, though, they probably won’t see it as a big loss, except for the $3.2M.
Turnbow
Would be an excellent closer for the Angels in 2009 – he would make everyone forget about K-Rod and his heart-attack ninth innings.
On the other hand, Bobby Jenks seems to be one of the AL’s dominant closers – but he had the arm and the girth – just needed to mature a bit.
Prospects. Just Prospects.
They end up as studs…rarely.
or…
They end up as trade bait…not often enough, and when they do, it is even less enough that the trigger is pulled.
or…
They become Turnbow. Quite often. After which they eventually become bitter bloggers somewhere in the blogosphere, blowing chunks at the rest of us about how they know more about baseball than we ever will.
So, in about two years, I look forward to seeing the handle “Rule5Righty” around here…
