Ms Halofan on Ervin Santana
So I recite a passage from Rob's 6-4-2 blog to my missus:
Ervin Santana, 25, became the youngest active pitcher to reach 40 career victories with Wednesday's win over Oakland.
I joke that I recall maybe 3 of those wins amidst Ervin's legendary struggles. She says:
"It is like family, we tend to focus on what is wrong and never really appreciate what is good with someone who we are around all the time and close to. We're doing that to Frankie and we're going to be sorry when he is gone, then we'll appreciate him."

True...
...but there also is a time in every parent’s life, when they just want their stroppy teenage son to either grow up and learn to act like a man or just fuck off.
I think that might apply to Frankie too.

Magic will surprise us this year
and Frankie will do his job, yet too many will scoff at his delivery and celebrate his departure in the offseason.

Frankie is the most important FA to re-sign
MUCH more important than Figgins. If we re-sign any of them, it should be him.

I want Frankie resigned yesterday, the delay in doing so worries me.
We’ve had a succession of two extremely reliable closers, so how difficult it is to get one isn’t as obvious to us as it is to teams like the Rangers, Tigers, and Indians. But if we’ve got $50 million to throw at Gary Matthews Jr, we sure as hell better have 50-60 million to spend on Frankie. While we’re at it, locking Casey Kotchman up to a long term deal wouldn’t be a terrible idea.
As for Santana, I think 2007 makes us forget that 2005 and especially 2006 were actually fairly decent years for a pitcher as young as Ervin. I really hope Ervin’s turned that big corner atlast.

Then you are in for a long, pessimistic, six months.
