Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Aybar to DL; possibly four weeks?

Well, unfortunately it looks like the rush to get Figgy back was because of not so optimistic doctor's reports about Aybar's pinkie finger. Aybar wants to be back on the field ASAP, but the ever-cautious Scioscia has other opinions:

"Erick's going to be out for a little while -- somewhere in the four-week range. That's a tough break for the kid. We're going to have to absorb it. Fortunately, he doesn't need surgery. Last night they finally got it in place. You could see when it happened that he was in pain."

So what does this mean for the team? Will we miss Aybar's workhorse, field general attitude as it is replaced by what feels like incompetence from Izturis for up to a month? Will Sean Rodriguez ever produce while Kendrick is on the mend? Is Kotchman in line for the next freak injury? Not that he's prone to it or anything...

The Halos won't miss Aybar's bat...

but maybe a play or two every few days will not be made that would have been made if Aybar was playing SS. However, I can’t get upset about losing the SS with an OBP of .280-something. Maybe Izturis gets hot and re-wins the SS job from Aybar.

Yeah

Aybar was horrible offensively, and if Kendrick ever comes back, the Angels really wont miss Aybar at all

that's a big IF.

He does seem to get to almost everything out there

I don’t know if it’s because Griffen places him great all the time but he did seem to help out defensively quite a bit.

We take serious...comedically.

Aybar was doing just fine both offensively and defensively.

HIs bat was a big part of the Angels’ success in April. He was slumping a bit in May, but then he has a lot of company in this. What is obvious is his improvement over last year’s performance, both offensively and defensively. He continues to get better and I believe he will be a very good ML SS in no time, perhaps win a few GGs and maybe hit around .300 somewhere down the road.

What is disappointing is the offensive production we’ve gotten from the AAA middle infielders brought up this year due to the rash of injuries. Wood, Brown and S. Rodriguez are just not getting it done at the plate. The bottom of our lineup has turned into a black hole of automatic outs. The clock is running on Wood, he’s been up and down like a yo-yo over the past year, so I realize its difficult for him to hit consistently in either league, but its time for him to make some progress.

i can't believe people like you actually exist.

Brandon Wood’s first 62 career at-bats: 9 H, 2 HR, 4 RBI, .145 BA
Matt Brown’s first 18 career at-bats: 1 H, 0 HR, 2 RBI, .056 BA
Sean Rodriguez’s first 45 career at-bats: 8 H, 0 HR, 1 RBI, .178 BA

Vladimir Guerrero’s first 27 career at-bats: 5 H, 1 HR, 1 RBI, .185 BA
Reggie Jackson’s first 118 career at-bats: 21 H, 1 HR, 6 RBI, .178 BA
Tim Salmon’s first 79 career at-bats: 14 H, 2 HR, 6 RBI, .177 BA
Brian Downing’s first 73 career at-bats: 13 H, 2 HR, 4 RBI, .178 BA
Don Baylor’s first 19 career at-bats: 4 H, 0 HR, 5 RBI, .210 BA

The list goes on.

Everyone please just relax. Anyone who knows anything about baseball knows that it takes a while to get used to major-league pitching, especially if you aren’t seeing consistent at-bats. All three of our guys have been highly touted minor league hitters. Please have a little faith and patience.
