Walk Off Walk
Panther of the Game: Scot Shields
Shields came into the game with men on base, pitched 1.2 scoreless, struck out 3 and was squeezed at the plate and did not break. Toughest award of the year on a win as Jon Garland kicked serious ass.

giving the panther to the starting pitcher every game gets boring…
Northeastern University Huskies: Mediocre hockey, guaranteed.
that hit in the 12th was clutch
for all the crap i have been giving him that was huge.
I'd rather see Willits in LF
sorry but on that type of game/ending
NOBODY on offense gets panther… besides, Garland was a close second on Fangraphs

I'm with you.
Shields brought the hammer down with the ump working against him and a man on third. Panther to the max.

garland
for the most shutout innings.
especially since no one even hit a walk-off.
C: Bengie Molina, 1B: Wally Joyner, 2B: Bob Grich, SS: Jim Fregosi, 3B: Troy Glaus, RF: Tim Salmon, CF: Darin Erstad, LF: Brian Downing, SP: Nolan Ryan, RP: Troy Percival
Ump was an amateur.
Someone needs to explain to him the late action on a 2 seam fastball thrown by a right-hander.

My vote
Kinda split 3 ways between Garland, Scot, and Jose. I’ll go with Shields getting out of the 8th jam and middle of Tigers lineup in the 9th
Outfielders For Sale.
Garland
Fangraphs gives a slight edge to Shields over Garland, but Garland pitched so well tonight

wat about a three panther system like they have in hockey.
with 3 points for 1st panther, 2 for 2nd, and 1 for 3rd. just cuz sometimes its hard to choose the panther, as a win isnt just because of 1 player.

my vote goes to Shields
man on 3rd, one out in the 8th and he was lights out despite the ump forcing him to get like 4 outs.
I'm with the Shields people, he was denied the called 3rd strike atleast 3 times
and didn’t let it shake him.

Now I know this would have been a huge loss for the Angels
but did anyone think about how devastating this loss is for the Tigers? 11 shutout innings wasted on the Road against a first place team and Sheff left with an injury.
yeah its way worse for them
and thats a really humiliating way to lose. i would feel bad, but i…dont.

That was the most boring 4 hour game ever.
If it was a pitching duel that would be one thing, but it wasn’t even that. It was just a bunch of anti-clutch hitters on both sides. Though Shields, Garland and Arredondo were pretty amazing.
Willits for ROY! Oh, wait... Um, Kendrick for batting title? Yeah!

they were great

We should have won that game 7 times over for the effort that he put in. He was awesome.

panther pitching all around
garland got out of nasty jams, shields, frankie and arredondo all kept us afloat.
pitching!
(ps our hitting is frightening right now)

If GA weren't so lazy...
We wouldn’t have won this game. He was too lazy to swing the bat.

If he weren't so lazy he would have gotten 10 RBI again, and made the pitching moot.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Actually....
I was thinking of GA for panther, just for knowing when NOT to swing.

Lost in the shuffle...
GA DID get the game-winning RBI …
Although, I thought Vlad’s single and Mice going from 1st-to-3rd was a key play in the game.
My panther vote goes to Vlad Guerrero.

Garland for shizz
he should have 7 wins right now, but our inept offense keeps snatching defeat from the jaws of victory when he pitches
Let Wood play!!!
any starting pitcher who throws a shutout
deserves a PANTHER.
i don’t care how boring it is, i would love to keep giving our starters panthers for 1 run or less outings.

how annoying is miguel cabrera?
i was ALL for getting this guy in the offseason and i think i just realized i hate him. he goes nuts when he catches routine pop outs and catches the balls thrown to him at first.
ya, youre playing a new position but its because youre a fatass. stop celebrating doing your job. you dont see landscapers high fiving after pruning bushes or mechanics running a victory lap after a quick tune up
Uh, I actually saw landscapers high-fiving it in Coto de Caza

When you're as bad at catching the ball as he seems to be
Celebrating like that makes sense. But yeah, he already had a rep as a jackass, and that’s another reason why I didn’t want him.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Shields stuff was ELECTRIC tonight. But Garland carried a shutout into the 8th.
Arredondo with two shutout innings, Frankie with a clutch K. And they did all this with ZERO MARGIN for error. 12 shutout innings against a Tigers team that put up 19 runs just two nights ago.

Vlad
Without moving Maicer to third with 1 out, they don’t walk T-Double-i to load the bases, and the BB doesn’t force home the winning run and we’re probably in the bottom of the 14th. Fitting way for this team to win right now.
But yeah, I guess Johnny G-Land is the safe pick.
Please go away Justin Speier. Your work here is done. And take Quinlan's half-inch fielding radius with you.
= days until figgins is back in the lineup
unfortunately wood would then play until howie is back (fingers crossed for next weekend).

S-rod might not leave, but he wont be playing.
Figgins or Izturis can each play 2nd base.
Im pretty sure scoscia is aware of rodriguez’s .120 avg or whatever it is.
figgins = 3rd
wood = Short
izturis = 2nd
or quinlan, izturis, figgins
either way, i dont see rodriguez getting any playing time once figgins is back.

This is bad Vlad and his band of wimps!
Garland!!!!!
this team was smoking hot 30+ runs the last few games and Garland shut them down to zero. He is the only reason we had a chanse.
with most pitching staffs that game would have been a 4 or 6 to 0 loss
perfect example of how a pitching staff gives and gives the team an opportunity to win
I'd rather see Willits in LF
hes pretty sweet
im somewhat worried about trusting him in such big situations once theres a scouting report out on him.
but for now, hes a pleasant little addition to a bullpen that has been kinda scary this year

if you watch the replay you will notice that naps was the first one out to home plate to high five izzy
may have been happy to not have to go back out there. seriously though he always seems really amped to be part of the team.
I'd rather see Willits in LF
naps was the on deck batter
Who goofed? I've got to know.
Anderson
He should be the panther because he didn’t ground a 3-0 pitch to the 2nd baseman for a double play—which is what everyone on this forum was expecting him to do (admit it).
i was expecting a K from him
but a GIDP was my second guess :)

Co panthers: Relief corps
Shields, K-Rod, Arredondo
Garland
Holding that horrifying offense to 4 hits through 7.1 IP with 5SO?
That’s enough to win on almost any other day.

Shields or Arredondo
Clutch pitching from both – Shieldsy in a more highly leveraged situation. That seems to be the consensus criteria for a Shields or Frankie Panther – escaping a highly leveraged situation without damage (and without really creating the crisis to begin with). An extremely solid outing from the rookie Arredondo does not go unnoticed. The guy has some nasty stuff.
Panther: Pitching staff
Pts 7.33 garland
4.67 relief

I certainly have never seen one, that was quite an experience to witness in person last night. Awesome!
"At some point, a veteran player will more often than not find his stroke. You just have to show them a little bit of patience."
yep
Although I can’t give you specific dates I know it has happened at least a couple times.
one of my best Angels memories was a beach towel day game
where fans started waving beach towels and as soon as they did the the opposing pitcher could hardly throw a strike. I think they won on a walkoff walk that day.
have you already forgotten about
torii’s walk-off grand slam
they’re giving away a tee shirt honoring it

Uh, g spot...
I said walk off WALK.
Walk = bases on balls, (bka BB), four pitches out of the strike zone.
How can I forget that walk off Grand Slam? I was THERE MAN!
