Funny thing is, even with a CG… that #P count was still incredibly close…

I was surprised GA said he could not grasp the concept of enthusiasm by fans or their
expectations of players’ performing well and winning. I thought that showed his odd character. Those shows are very revealing so far, a rarity in baseball reporting.

Sorry about zoning out earlier, I'm in the middle of finals and I hit the crash point.
Looks like they did pretty well though. Way to go Ervin especially.

Incredible performance
Ervs…incredible. 2nd CG SHO in his short career. Just don’t tell him or Saunders that they’re not fighting for the 5th spot anymore.
Kotch is hitting .700 something against lefties. No shit. Over .700. Small sample whatever, that’s impressive after 34 games.

F'ing amazing
I was at a bar with my ex and her friends, and in a night where I expected to have to deal with tears and accusations, Ervin saved me.
I love the Angels.

whats funny to think
is that if hypothetically if kelvim and lackey were to both come back 100% tomorow, the pitcher to the bullpen would be garland or weaver. wouldnt expect that

Is Kelvim still alive?
I think he’s done for the year.

Panther Santana
I want to give some props to Mathis though, not only for gunning down runners but for calling an amazing game AGAIN.
by Halo21 on May 5, 2008 8:47 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree! Love the old Santana!
Mathis has definitely proven that he is our every day catcher.

Mathis has not shown much power offensively, while Napoli is our best homerun hitter.

by 44FAN on May 5, 2008 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Don't get me wrong, I like Mathis too, I think he and Napoli are about
even defensively. They are both excellent catchers and great assets to the team.
Scioscia, "Roll the hole!"
by 44FAN on May 5, 2008 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with that
in fact I think Nap has more HR’s than Big Papi. I just wish he would get the average up a bit. Mathis does have some pop though but he’s in a hitting funk right now. Well lets hope it’s just a funk and not that pitchers have figured him out, he was rolling for a while.
by Halo21 on May 5, 2008 9:11 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Mathis' confidence is down, he is watching good pitches go by the plate
and then swinging at slop and striking out or popping up fly balls. He seems a little desperate for a hit lately. He definitely has the ability to be a good productive hitter and garner his share of home runs. It can’t be easy for Jeff living in the shadow of Napoli’s home run record.
Scioscia, "Roll the hole!"
by 44FAN on May 5, 2008 9:22 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
i think Napoli should be the starter every day
i hate this platoon idea… you are just weakening your catchers by doing it. Neither of them will every get the endurance the catch an entire year, and both of them will suffer from a lack of consistent ABs. Napoli is carrying the big stick and he is defense is improving. You’ve got to go with the guy that can help you win games both ways. when he hits a funk, let Mathis go for a few days. But until then, Napoli needs to be getting work every day. end of story

Very Sothful post. I agree.

by 44FAN on May 5, 2008 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
ha ha thanks.
just my two cents… i just think that when your team leader in homers is on the bench, there’s something wrong. with more ABs and playing time, his average will come up, as will his defensive skills
thats also my reasoning for more playing time for Wood. :)

Napoli for DH
End the contraversy!
by melvintoast on May 6, 2008 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I was thinking that too, but...
then we need to carry another Catcher…can’t put the DH into the game unless the Pitcher is going to bat…

Amazing
I hate to sound like a broken record, but for all the skeptics out there, this should serve as further evidence that the coaching staff actually knows a thing or two about pitching. Again, all last year, they kept saying Ervin’s problem was in “repeating pitches,” referring to his mechanics. He was throwing 95 last year, too, but right down the middle & with no movement. Now that he’s worked out the flaw in his hip turn or whatever, he’s back to being what many of us thought he could be. With excellent heat (96 mph on the corner in the 9th inning!), and great location with his offspeed pitches (that’s a pretty wicked slider and changeup), he has the stuff to be a #1, and he’s only 25 freakin’ years old!

What a job by Santana ... but ...
.... it’s about damn time our big guys start rattling some bats. Otherwise the next two games could get a bit ugly. We struggled against Tomko and it took a Koufax-like gem from Voodoo to win that one for us.
How about manning up Vlad? ... GA? Nice dong tonight but try doing against Bannister and Greinke. Those two pitchers the Royals are putting out there next two days are not dogmeat like Tomko and we’re throwing Adenhart and WTY, arguably our two weakest starters at the moment. And we don’t have the spark provided by Figgins, Kendrick to get the offense going. Let’s get the bats going boys and aim for a sweep.
Time for a start at 3B right now for Mr B Wood, btw as well … Night night from Scotland, see you all tomorrow ..
Don't call me Desmond

I've said it before and I'll say it again
Either Vlad’s not right (unhealthy), or he’s getting old rather quickly. I hope I’m wrong, but when Vlad starts to age he’s going to get old REAL quick.
I thinks he’s one of the most amazing hitters I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been a Vlad fan when he was a youngster playing for the Expos, but maybe Vladdy’s bat is starting to slow down. If that’s the case…DAMN!
GA’s Renaissance last year was a thing of beauty, but let’s be honest, he’s done.
Thank god we have the best manager in baseball, because despite all of the breakout players we have in this young season, Mike’s going to have to deal with a lot of HIS guys transitioning into marginal players.

Interesting point
In spite of how long Sosh hangs on to the veterans, he does eventually bow to the facts (hence GA batting 6th). I wouldn’t be surprised to see Johnny Rivers or KMo DHing by the end of the year, with GMJ in LF every day (that is almost happening already). I really loved GA and hate to see his decline, and last year’s 2nd half shut up a lot of the doubters, but he is supposedly healthy this year, and it looks like he is really done this time (prove me wrong GA!).
Oh, well, nothing lasts forever, and the quality of our youth is quite amazing! Look out Red Sux, here we come!

Win Pics
I just thought of something that would make a great WIN pic, which I don’t think I’ve seen. How ‘bout a pic of the WS trophy? Or maybe a nighttime shot of the A, with illuminated halo?

i purposefully avoid trademarks … by not having rally monkeys, players, logos, even the name “angels” in the site title, i avoid cease and desist letters from MLBAM … and believe me, those letters will be coming one day, eventually, to other fan sites.
by Rev Halofan on May 6, 2008 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
would a shot of the big A in the parking lot be a trademark violation?
