That Fifth Starter position that was going to be such a killer has been alright (we are 2-4 in those games), all things considered.

GMJr.

I think I need to rant about him more often; seems that’s the only time he ever does anything productive, as I pine for more ABs for Juan Rivera.

do the coaches hate home runs?

is that why Napoli doesnt play?
im convinced that our guys are getting punished for power… thats why Vlad’s homers are down, and Napoli doesn’t get any ABs

While I LOVE Napoli, I also LOVE Mathis. Mathis calls a better game, has way better defense, and it shows. I think Mathis is the better catcher!

Garret Anderson ...

... should walk out to the mound and bitch-slap Adenhart.

Don't call me Desmond

Too lazy

He’ll wait till Nick comes back to the dugout.

Well nice job Nick

It was an improvement. Cant hate a 21 year old kid for being nervous

by Northwest on May 6, 2008 6:45 PM PDT reply actions

He wasn't nervous

He just couldn’t throw strikes. Cost himself a chance for a W.

Don't call me Desmond

Needs a winter of working with Butcher on repeating armslots

That’s what happened to Santana and Saunders.

Hopefully he keeps on improving.

Especially his command.

Could we get a new catcher in too for Oliver?

We could use a few more homerun hitters in this game. Ha, ha.

by Halofanatic on May 6, 2008 6:55 PM PDT reply actions

You know, Rob over at 6-4-2 recently said our bullpen ERA

was second worst in the league. While that’s true, it’s not really fair. The back 4 of Oliver, Speier, Shields, and K-Rod have been very effective as a group, especially after the first two weeks of the season. It’s the kids going out for the first time + Moseley and Bootcheck that have really been getting nailed.

*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!

by TheOptimist on May 6, 2008 6:55 PM PDT reply actions

Our team pitching stats

are skewed by 2-3 EXTREMELY bad games, with overall consistency being otherwise pretty good.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on May 6, 2008 6:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that team ERA and bullpen ERA are

well correlated with effectiveness. If you look at our top relievers , k-rod, shields, speier, oliver and o-day, you’ve got 2 blown saves in 16 tries and 3 losses

Choakland has 4 blown saves in 14 tries and 2 losses

Wouldn’t think that their ERA is half ours.

That's rather Optimistic for Oliver

Optimist. GA has accounted for ALL of our runs. Oliver has just been doing a good job.

by highlandhalo on May 6, 2008 7:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, but after Adenhart had been having so much trouble,

Oliver’s come in and slammed the door. I’m not saying GA doesn’t deserve it, but getting that inning and 2/3 was a pretty big deal.

Question

Who do the members of this site flip-flop on more? The Bullpen or GA?

by Northwest on May 6, 2008 7:05 PM PDT reply actions

GA by far.

We all knew the non-newbie BP members were solid.

K-Rod seems like the only exception, and that’s partially his fault for taunting with the fear of loss so much.

Youd be a great pitching coach

“Hang on sosh, i got this”

Zu walks to the mound

“Throw strikes (insert pitchers name here)”

Zu walks away from the mound

by Northwest on May 6, 2008 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm a better coach

not only would I tell him to throw strikes, I’d also make clear that he should try not to throw balls.

Can’t mess with that type of coaching.

Dangit.
