G.A. Helps N.A.
Panther of the Game: Garret Anderson
And is everyone relieved to be done with the cloying sentimentality of Steve Physioc's White Knight trip through the Never-Never Land of the Negro Leagues?

Hey cmon now.
I don’t think we appreciate Frankie enough either, but this Panther was a slam dunk no-brainer.

incredible G.A. stat
G.A. at the allstar break last year—15 rbis
after 65! Lets start that trend a little eralier. GO GARRET GO!!!!!!!!!!
by hunter48 on May 6, 2008 8:32 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
very scewed statistic
he started 38 games before the allstar break last year, and 68 after it. Big difference. Also, as we know, 10 of the post allstar break RBIs were in one game.
by BoulderBrian on May 6, 2008 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Okay, but even if you subtract the 10 rbi game
then he still had 57 rbis after the all-star break, which is nothing to sneeze at.
by mhatter106 on May 6, 2008 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
57!!!!! LOL
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my bad
for some reason i thought i remmebered someone telling me 67, i figured the 65 was wrong. but i looked it up its right.
by mhatter106 on May 7, 2008 4:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why does 10 in one game not count? And why wouldn't 65 x 2 = 130 in a year be
impressive?
by melvintoast on May 6, 2008 10:00 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
i love GA as much as the next old time halo fan
but i’m just saying that because of his skewed stats last year, due to playing time and the one game that was an out lier, don’t expect anything like that this year. I hope he hits 100 rbi over the season, that would be great, but because he had 65 after the all-star break and far fewer before, doesn’t mean a similar trend will occur this season.

2007
Garret wasn’t a first half/second half player last year, despite that popular perception.
He had a bad first month of the season. One month. Then, he started hitting in late April (about the 23rd or 25th). Then, he got injured and missed 35 games to injury. When he came back on June 3rd, hit hit fairly well before he was hurt again on the 16th. From July 3rd (when he came back, another 14 games missed) to the 8th (all-star break), he hit well again. All things considered, he hit .343 from April 25th to July 8th, with an .845OPS in 20 games. Simplifying the discussion to just “pre and post all star break RBIs) isn’t fair at all. He was hitting before the break.
Had he not been injured twice, throwing him off from finding any kind of consistency, there’s no telling how well he would have played in that late April – early July time frame. What we do know is that he was hitting well then.
So, essentially, G.A. had one bad month last year. April. It wasn’t a first-half/second-half story at all. Not to mention, if you want to go strictly on RBIs…he played 40 games in the first half of the season, with 15RBIs, despite being constantly marred with injuries. That projects to 61RBIs in a full season (again despite injuries).
We all know the second half story.

why doesnt adenhart get the win?
he was pitching when the angels took the lead. he pitched into the fifth, and the angels had the lead when he left the game
I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Starting Pitcher must COMPLETE 5 IP to get a win
...old skool rule, but that is the way they still do it in the mlb…
by Rev Halofan on May 6, 2008 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If GA wasn't so lazy
Adenhart would’ve gotten the win.

HA!
GA finally picking it up, thank the lord.
I hope the greatest Angel hitter of all-time keeps it up.
I’m starting to believe that this team is going to be special.

If GA wasn't so lazy
Adenhart woulda pitched a complete game no hitter

we woulda found those weapons of mass destruction.

That bastard
he probably also slept through his lookout duty shift on Titanic.
And wasn’t he the one responsible for tearing down the Berlin Wall?
Probably also slept through secret service detail for Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and Kennedy.

Wasn't lazy and drunk GA piloting the Exxon Valdez when it ran aground?
I also heard that he was one of Jesus’ sleepy disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane when the guards came to arrest the Savior.

The Secret Service did not exist at the time of Lincoln.
It was Lincoln’s assassination that facilitated the need for protection of the president for all presidents there after.

It didn't exist
only ‘cause GA was too lazy to found it before the Civil War.
by TheTypingFiend on May 7, 2008 11:06 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You'll have to excuse me
I had a G.A. moment of laziness in doing my research on the history of the secret service.

Interestingly Enough
that rule apparently doesn’t apply in Spring Training (not that spring games matter, anyway). But I’ve noticed that they’ll credit the win to the starter if he goes about three innings. Maybe that’s because nobody goes 5 early in the spring.

I'm Kinda Glad
I didn’t see the game, insofar as it meant not having to hear Physioc; but I can just imagine what he was saying (and how he was saying it), based on Rev’s quip.
And there are people who actually prefer him? Yikes!

G.A was great
But it would have been useless without Oliver bailing out Adenhart.
