GMJ made TWO fundamental “lack-o-mental” mistakes on that one play (not running the player back to first, and not throwing in front of the runner to hold him at the prior base), but that was not the reason for NINE Met runs or a THREE run loss.

Really I do. But his good mechanics keep getting overridden by his bad psychology. One batter gets up against him and suddenly this pathos starts pouring out of him in body language that Stevie Wonder could read.
So I think he gets the blame. And if I could give a secondary blame I’d give it to Vlad for reaching a mile and a half for three low-outsiders in a row in a crucial.

I wasn’t watching the early innings because I was at work, but Helen tells me that after Mathis made his error, Weaver started getting cranky and bit his lip and stuff, losing his focus for the big at-bat of the inning, Beltran’s homer. Anybody wanna confirm?

Too many things
In order:
1) Weaver for his crappy performance.
2) Scioscia for failing to pull him when it was clear he was riding on the razor’s edge the whole night (i.e. after he gave up a single in the seventh)
3) As others have said, Vlad for his swing-at-everything, hit-nothing performance with men on the corners in the seventh
4) GMJ for defensive brain farts and yet another “one good offensive event per game” performance. This is also partly on Scioscia, who should know better by now and should be sitting him down to find out how good Willits can be is if he gets regular playing time (oh, who am I kidding, GMJ sucks).
I don’t normally get annoyed with Scioscia, but this game is a big exception.

How the hell do you know the Angels were going to score another run. You are looking at this through your Rear View Mirror. If Arredondo holds them I bet we would have still lost this game 4-3. Arredondo not holding them CAUSED the Angels to score more runs. We will never know what would have happened if Arre got the “hold” (We were loosing so its not a hold) because there are NO “What If’s” In baseball.
Now if we were tied, And Arredondo came in with runners on then I would MOST Likely blame him, but that was not the case so I blame VLAD or HGH.
F it i’ll give it to Anderson for not hitting a game tieing HR and lineing into a DP.

Thanks........I learned my lesson on wishing people to get injured.
I pulled my Hamstring last week and realized I do not want anyone to go through that pain, not even my worst enemies, cuz it sucks.

Nope......I went to the University Health Center in Whittier, on Amber Valley Dr.
and got some GOOD treatment. I played on again this past sunday but did not run at full speed.
I would like to race Figgins, Aybar, and Izzy to see how fast I am and how fast they really are. I too rely on speed in baseball.

I blame Scioscia for leaving Weaver in too long, then leaving Arredondo in too long. It’d be awesome if we could combine our 6 run performance with some better pitching someday.

I know the feeling.
I’ve stopped wearing my jersey when I go to games… they’re 1-5 when I wear it.
Further proof, I wore it during the home opener. I took it off after the 8th, and they scored 6 runs in the 9th.

the guy is in by far the worst
slump of his career, and yet is still batting better than most. Where will your un-inspired posts be when Vlad winds up batting .315, with 28 Hr, 110 RBI, still an off year but the best numbers on the team. Real smart move, “hey lets trade Vlad” yeah I won’t even go into how stupid of a decision this would be, but how about trading a “superstar” when he’s slumping at his worst. Your argument would have at least sounded semi-intelligent if you had said, “When Vladdy gets out of this slump, and ends the season hot, we should trade him in the offseason to at least get something for him before he really starts to decline.”
It is still a stupid argument but at least it’s a better thought out one.

You obviously never played the game and you do not know the first thing about it. That much is obvious. Spend some time learning the game and its history, put together an idea that makes some degree of sense, and then start pecking away at your keyboard. The only “fool” I see here right now is you.

No way the blame should go to Arredondo
Weaver was bad. Arredondo wasn’t good either. But Vladdy really stunk it up.
Up until this year, if we had runners on 1st and 3rd, only one out, and Vlad would be at the plate, we’d all KNOW we’d get at least another run, possibly two or even three. These days, we KNOW he’s going to either ground into a double play or strike out.
Terrible, terrible at bat by Vlad in the 7th. Vlad has not been good three games in a row the entire season. I’m starting to think his GOOD games this year are more of a fluke than his BAD games… Which is really sad as I think Vlad is absolutely awesome – just not this year, or at least not so far.
Theory
is it reasonable to expect the offense to score more than 6 runs? No.
Is it reasonable to expect the pitching to give up fewer than six runs? Yes.
Arredondo let the game get out of hand. Even assuming he allows the runner to score from 3B (with only one out, a reasonable possibility), had he simply done his job correctly (get two measly outs…say, a flyout and a groundout) the game stays within reach. A two or three-run lead is a lot easier to overcome. His job was to limit the damage; instead, he threw gas on the fire.
Yeah, it would have been nice if Vlad had gotten a hit, but the team still scored 6 runs, which should be enough to win the game.

You can say that it wasn’t a good at bat from Vladdy in the 7th. But that is a lot of harsh blame for one at bat. We had Vladdy picked off at third (not his fault, it was a contact play and replays showed he was safe), Izzy thrown out at Second and Kotch forgetting he is Kotch and getting thrown out. there’s our three runs right there…. If you said that we would score six (and really 9, without boneheaded running plays) I would have told you that we would have won going away. the fact is the pitching didn’t hold up… Weaver was off but did okay enough, the blame goes to Arrendondo. as JJackflash said if he had done his job we would have won.

The fact is, the pitching has been carrying the lack-of-offense for quite some time now. Vlad is our most talented hitter, or at least he was, and he was as un-clutch as could be. That did it in my book.
So while I agree with the theory...
It felt like Vlad could have made a bigger difference than Dondo.

but i was leaning vlad. i wouldn’t have thought of vlad had he even hit a nubber back to the pitcher, or at least looked at one pitch. but swinging at three pitches way off the plate, especially when he should know they’re coming, is frustrating to watch. i mean, if i know that they’re coming, and i’ve never played a game of organized baseball in my life, shouldn’t he?

They all politely clapped in my section (107). No heckling at all.
Then again, I nearly hurled when I saw some pencil-neck wearing a halos hat with a Piazza Mets jersey on. Toward the end of the game, he took off the Angels cap and was clapping a bit louder than he was earlier in the game.

That's his job
to fix it – i.e., get two outs and limit the damage. He didn’t. It could have been a 2 or 3-run game; he made it a 5-run affair.
True, he was put in there to limit the damage BUT
some people make it seem like if the KNEW the angels were going to score 6 runs.

Only 4 runs had scored when WTY left the game; Arredondo let in the other two, plus two more besides. Again, even granting an additional run for an out, there’s no way that sixth run should have scored. And that’s on Jose this time.

Where can you find this stat? I think it should be one of the first stats you see when talking about relievers, but one never can see it on their stat pages.

has it on each player’s page. E.g., here’s Scot Shields’ page. The abbreviation “IR” is inherited runners, and IS is inherited runners who scored. Thus, in 2007, Shields stranded 20 of 32 inherited runners.
