So, Rev....
...talk me through the mathematics here. I guessed GMJ without thinking this through…
High number of plate appearances + low number of total bases. Clearly adding them together isn’t going to work.
Of all those with the highest number of plate appearances (e.g. 6), the one with the lowest number of total bases? What if only one player has 6 PAs and hits 2 HRs? What if one of the guys with 5 PAs Ks 5 times – who wins?
How are you calculating this? (Or am I just being a bit dense?)
I see red people
What if you go with
the equation
Plate Appearances – total bases = total
Examples
6 pa – 1 tb = 5
or
6 pa – 8 tb = -2
Rev, is this how it will be computed?

C'mon now
You should know by now I’m the one that has to take care of the nitty gritty :P
That actually is a clever way to calculate this. I didn’t think of it that way. Interesting indeed.

I figured that
Rev would need to answer, since he came up with the question.
Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, Glory lasts Forever!
Seems simple to me
It’s a 2-step process to determine the winner. Say Figgy, Maicer, and Howie get 5 PAs and everyone else only get 4. Everyone is eliminated but Figgy, Maicer, and Howie. Whoever has the fewest total bases between those 3 wins (or in reality, loses).

Which brings me back to the example before...
We’re trying to find a truly hopeless performance, I suspect.
If we only get 1 player with 6 pa’s and he hits 2 HRs, is that going to be worse than the guy of goes 0 for 5? I would suggest probably not.
I like BillHune’s version I think
I see red people
Think of it like this
The contest is really to pick who will have the most PAs. The fewest total bases part is the tiebreaker.
Right?

sticky...
Argh. this is a thinker. I actually think billhune’s is the way to go, especially with the example presented above.
it’s not clear though… but if its what you presented, I would imagine the wording would be slightly different…
But. either way, here’s hoping it doesnt’ make a difference…

I'd agree with using billhune's calculation as well
Seems to me that we’re trying to guess who will have the most futile performance tonight, not who will simply have the most PAs. Thus, the fewest total bases is critical in determining who has had the most chances to produce, yet produced jack shit, which I assume to be the crux of tonight’s guesses. My $.02…
And now it’s off to $.07 Mojito Madness Happy Hour. Cheers!

Yeah, basically who's gonna suck the mo...
errr, excel the least, I mean, and relatively. Gotta be billhune’s PA – TB with a couple 0-fers and a couple 1-fers “vying” for the award.
GMJ
Though I’m not sure how the math works out on this either. If we’re just looking for a low number, then I’d just default to Santana, who will have some plate appearances with (likely) zero total bases.
...
this sounds like a conditional. I don’t like conditionals.

Sounds more like a ZERO.

I'm with "The Limey"...
I need the math. Not so much to make the pick; rather, to be able to determine outcomes. Another example: Which would be “better,” contest-wise:
5 PA’s w/ 1 TB or 4 PA’s w/ 0 TB?
Or would that be a tie?

I dont know if i misheard, but the four letter network radio station just said esco is pitching tonight for us. either they clearly dont know angels baseball or myspacecobar has recovered rather quickly. i know he has been throwing simulated games but i didnt think he was ready to start.
did anyone else hear that?
Didn't hear that...
but it is preposterous. He’s down in Tempe right now with Bootycheck doing a rehab assignment.

Snippet from angelsbaseball.com 6/19 2:30AM
Angels right-hander Kelvim Escobar and reliever Chris Bootcheck are en route to Tempe, Ariz., to continue their rehab stints for their injuries. Escobar, who was diagnosed with a torn labrum in late March, will throw a simulated game on Tuesday, and he could pitch two innings in an Arizona Summer League game next week. Bootcheck, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained forearm, is expected to begin a long-toss program this weekend

i thought so
i guess its just another example of how biased the network is and their inability to do a simple bit of research to find out the “real” starters. i hope this doesnt spark yet another debate on the bias of the network, heaven knows we have had enough of those lately.
so were looking at a mid to late july return for myspacecobar?
i know there is speculation of him returning to the starting rotation but is that unrealistic to think of right now? id like to see him, if he can fully recover, in the bully maybe take Spier’s spot and package Spier in a deal to pick up a slugger.
