Way to prtect that 4 run lead?

Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

OK, make fun

but the surest sign we are taking Frankie for granted. Consider the following scenario:

1) No 2E-7 in the ninth. Angels lead 4-2.
2) Frankie is gone. Arredondo is our closer (as some have wished for).
3) ...?

Then who

strikes out 4 in the 8th?

by halofan91 on Jun 21, 2008 7:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Arredondo does it for Shields

Next year, and then after than probably someone else will be ready. Shields might be able to close for 2-3 years, you never know. He certainly won’t command/demand $15 million a season.

by highlandhalo on Jun 21, 2008 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions

But my point is

that Arrendondo is not ready, even for a setup role (which it has been argued is often harder than that of closer). In other words, without Shields AND Frankie, we lose this game (if the 2E in our favor hadn’t happened)

i could make the argument for 4 guys

Vlad, Joe, Aybar, and Shields….....

I pick shields…..how often does someone K 4 in an inning?? Outstanding…....specially the last K against howard…..who was the go-ahead run at the plate…....just flithy!

Agree on Panther, but

let’s not take Joe for granted… 11-3 just might start the all star game…he has stopped several losing streaks…he has been NAILS!

This is HOT Vlad and his band of wimps!

by K3YEROUT on Jun 21, 2008 6:45 PM PDT reply actions

He wont start the All-Star game

He is an Angel. And in this league, if you play on the west coast you are all but forgotten

Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!

Ahh, the joys of .600 ball!

Playing .600 ball since: June 20, 2006 (197-131)
R/G since the scareduck 5.0 challenge: 5.8 in 5 games
Record required the rest of the way to reach PECOTA projection: 40-47

Dude

I’m down with you ya cuz you’re a journo like me, but you like your stats a lot more than I do. However, this may have been the best tidbit since I’ve been an HHer:

Awesome. Let’s get the brooms out tomorrow (or t’marra as they say in Philly)

i see he repped the “BOOM….outta here”’s in the game thread. Nice work. It’s nice to see the saying’s namesake really live up to his mantra.

Panther: Aybar (honorable mention: Shields 4Ks in 1 inning)

It was pretty deflating when the Phils came back to tie it after there were 2 outs and nobody on base in the 7th. For Aybar to come up and hit a two-out two-run home run in the 8th was HUGE. The Angels probably lose this game if Aybar doesn’t break the tie.

Special props to Frankie. A 4-run lead save may not seem like a big deal but in that bandbox nothing should be taken for granted.

Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

Aybar Panther

His blast brought the Angels back when the lead was coughed up.

Despite the four Ks, it looked like Shields was going to cry out there.

Hokie Joe might be gettin screwed on the panther thing

Vlad is EXPECTED to hit a few bombs against the Phillies. Meanwhile, our crafty left-hander Hokie Joe “The Colonel” Saunders continues to baffle hitters in both leagues to the tune of 11 wins.

How many times have we lost games against guys like Hokie Joe? How nice is it to have him on our side for once?

11-3 baby. And I’d have bet my mortgage that Hokie Joe wouldn’t have 11 wins by the first day of summer, but there we go …

Good game. Let’s enjoy Sunday’s!

Weaver is going to have to pitch well on Sunday

because Cole Hamels is tough and very consistent

Angels in 08!

by tanana40 on Jun 21, 2008 9:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Being the flyball pitcher that he is... If anything but awesome-Weaver shows up, we're toast tomorrow

Weaver is consistently inconsistent. That bugs me more than somebody that simply just sucks.

by infant on Jun 21, 2008 9:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not bugged, but your analysis is spot-on

After two days of suppression, the Phils’ offense will be looking to bust some cheap flyball homers in the sunshine. Could get real ugly for Lil’ Weave.

by mattwelch on Jun 22, 2008 4:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Getting screwed?

Maybe the Halos’ pitching is just light years ahead of the hitting, but there are more automatic Panthers given to individual starting pitching performances than individual hitting performances.

Hokie Joe was in line for the Panther, no matter what Vlad or anyone did.

He just slipped a little towards the end.

With the talent in the rotation, I EXPECT the individual starters to go out and perform well. For them, doing their job is good enough for a Panther, while everyone else has to have a great performance or whatever double standard excuse others may have before they even merit serious consideration.

When was the last time Vlad hit two home runs out?

by BBFan1 on Jun 21, 2008 9:23 PM PDT up reply actions

i was on the Vladdy wagon yesterday for Panther.......

3-5, 3rbi’s 2 runs scored, 1bb…....and no K’s…......

and i would have been all for him today as well…....but striking out 4 people in a inn is impressive enough for a “panther” to me…..that is going above and beyond in my book…....

i root for teams that lack offense! go halos and bills!

by norcaliangelsfan on Jun 21, 2008 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions

how do we not give it to aybar?

comes in off the bench, and gives us big breathing room at a time where im sure a lot of us were thinking we had a good chance of losing. the fact that it was our tiny short stop makes it even more panther-esque in my opinion. we expect vlad to hit bombs(especially in philly), but aybars was clutch AND unexpected!

vlad + aybar = win

by ihearhowie2.0 on Jun 21, 2008 9:42 PM PDT reply actions

today was a tough one no doubt.........

i wouldnt mind if most days were that tough ;)

Day late...

But, I thought Aybar was the panther Saturday.
