POLL: Napoli or Mathis?
Based on the spirited discussion on the "More Side Salad" thread, here is a poll to take the pulse of the HH crew. Have at it!
Oh, I need 75 words. Well, heck. Three times twenty-five is seventy-five. Five times fifteen is seventy-five. Three times five squared is seventy-five. How'm I doing? Darn! Only fifty-seven. OK, my preferred line-up: Figgy (3B), Howie (2B), Vladdy (RF), Kotch (1B), Torii (CF), GA (LF), JR/Kendry (sorry GMJ) (DH), Napoli (C) (oops, I gave away my vote!), Admiral (SS). How about now? Got it!

I don't get
Why Soth sits Naps for so long-well, ok, b/c he’s in a slump. Then Naps gets up for the first time in a week and has a fantastic offensive game-so you’d think he’d get the next start, right? Nope, he gets sat on the bench.
How does Soth expect ANY sort of consistency like this?

he's got a man crush on mathis
i think that’s pretty obvious… it’s the same with HGH.
they show one small sign of doing something right and they get every start for a month.
on the other hand, Naps (or Willits) has to do something right for 1/2 the season to merit 2 or 3 games in a row.
completely eggagerated, i know. but you get my point

...not to mention the unending fascination with Ro-buh-buh Quinlan
who gets shoehorned into this lineup too regularly. Seems I remember Napoli coming to our (offensive) rescue with more than a modicum of offense when the horrific (offensive) platoon of J.Molina and Mathis couldn’t collectively bat either of their weights; I also recall Willits saving the leadoff spot and even getting tepid ROY talk nationally I think the next year, yet these guys don’t get a sniff. Just something to wonder about while continuing to generally worship Scioscia…

The Scioscia worship...
comes from the amazing tenure (he averages like 89 wins/season—off the top of my cranium) and the WORLD SERIES RING he provided. Something we had not even sniffed in the previous 39+ years prior to deity Mike’s arrival.

And the fact that Soth can stop and start the rotation of the earth just with his hand signs.

I like his clap "sign language" when removing a pitcher from the game...
it signifies how well he feels a pitcher did…I saw that blogged somewheres about a year ago or so. Take a look, when Bootcheck stinks it up, he’ll give him like one clap, whereas a Lackey 1-hitter through 8 will get like four claps. Comedy.

its because
a) were playin the freakin nats, were not supposed to lose this game
b) even if we do lose this game, we still took 2 of 3 on the road
c) hes resting napoli for the dodgers series (hopefully he plays in all 3 games)

no it's not
a) never assume you are supposed to win a game based on the opposing team’s W-L record. Your
team will inverably lose the game.
b) while taking two of a three game series is acceptable to some, we are the Angels baseball team,
and every game and every win is important. When your celebrated power hitter is down with flu, it
makes no sense at all, none, to sit your power hitting catcher that hit a two run homerun in the
previous day’s game. Especially when the game ends up tied going in to the ninth inning
(remember it’s the freakin nats).
c) the catcher that needs to be rested is Jeff Mathis and not because of physical fatigue but more a
case of mental fatique. It shows on his face and it shows in his defensive performance lately. If
Mike Napoli read your number three about needing rest, he would probably laugh shyly and tell
you to go fuck yourself. None of us should even pretend to know what Soth is thinking, or what
his strategy for an upcoming series will be, because we will probably be pleasantly surprised
that our predictions were wrong.

i didnt mean to say that those were the reasons, i meant to say that those are the best reasons i could think of
and to clarify a, i meant that even with alot less offense we could beat the nats, and the first two games were decided by defense (ok, maybe not the second so much, but defense had a huge part in that 6 run first), and mathis is the superior defender, so it would make some sense to start him over naps.
for the record, i would have preferred naps to play

I expected that from Soth.......
Kendry hit a game tying HR…......Got benched the next game.
Kendry got the game winning hit….....Got benched the next game.
Rivera got the GW hit and…......Got benched the next game.
See the pattern on “Non Starters, Great hitters”
Scioscia doesnt like good hitters LOL
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
