Giambi, Thome, Dunn and Burrell are all free agents after this season.
Angels should sign two of these guys.

Giambi or Thome are high risk, but should be relatively low cost.
One of those two could be productive in 2009.
All four guys I listed do two things the Angels don’t: take walks and hit home runs.

Having flashbacks of Saturday
Garland is more annoying than Weaver.
1. No hope of improvement, but every expectation of decline.
2. No out pitch.
3. Mediocre stuff and low-90’s-at-best velocity, lives on guile.
At least he doesn’t yell at his glove.
Witty .sig goes here.
The good news about Garland, is that he's a free agent at year's end.
And the $12 million the Angels save from that will be directed towards a power hitting free agent.

dude... Sosh is the only manager to ever lead the Halos to the WS. And not only that...
They won. Call it ludicrous… he’s got 3 division pennants and a ring. I’ll take that any day over Gene
Its not Gene's fault that Joyner couldnt play in the '86 ALCS
...and its not his fault that Henderson crushed that Donnie Moore pitch…and it was a good pitch. If Joyner is healthy, the Angels beat the Mets in the World Series
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
I don't agree
Again…it was a good pitch that Moore threw. Henderson couldnt have done that again in a million years
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
Soth has no clue
how to make a lineup card. Kotchman and HGH should be switched in tonights lineup
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
Kotch is batting .292
I’ll take that any day
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
Kotch has been one of our best hitters all year
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
It's not in effect tonight, but...
...I have never understood the “bat a speedy guy 9th to have 2 leadoff hitters” strategy. I’m serious, I actually don’t understand how it makes sense. If someone could explain it to me using small words, I’d appreciate it.
The theory is
that you put a guy who’s fast but doesn’t walk enough to warrant being higher up in the lineup.
The Hunt for a Red October ...and please keep telling Clutch to chill!
by cardinalwraith on Jun 30, 2008 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions
I guess I get it if...
..the idea is to just have 2 in a row, so hopefully one gets on for the RBI guys. But when there’s also a speedy slap hitter batting 2nd, suddenly you have 3 in a row and nobody to drive that 9th guy in if he gets on.
I like the idea IF we bat Howie 2nd to get those guys home
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
Also Vlad bats third
To get him more at bats.
When the lineup flips around he allegedly gets the RBI opportunities of a hitter in the 4 spot

What kind of idiotic organization
tries to make its hitters do things they are not naturally good at? Kotchman is from our organization, he takes walks, NApoli too. To force people who are NOT plate discipline types to concentrate on the ONE THING that they do not do whiel they are in DEVELOPMENTAL ball … dude, that is idiocy.
I hadn't realized it
but that .339 OBP in 2008 is a pretty big step down from his .372 last year. Plus he’s not hitting for as much power as last year. Just hope it’s a half-season anomaly.

no, they dont. youre absolutely right
even though you were kidding. these are grown men getting paid millions. youre telling me vlad and torii hunter listen to mickey hatcher?
youre all unbelievable. everyone gives the hitters credit when theyre hot but then only blames coaches when theyre cold. its pathetic. it goes both ways. nobody complained about hatcher last year when our hitters were unstoppable for months.

ya, 2 playoff appearances and an ALCS over those 3 years. what a loser
this team operates on mike scoscias philosophy so a knock on hatcher is a knock on your manager. but go ahead, complain away. i guess its easy to be pissy when youve only followed the team since theyve been successful. or at least act like it.
by ihearhowie2.0 on Jun 30, 2008 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Dude.
I started following the Halos in 1965, when I heard they were coming to Anaheim.
If the offense sputters, it is the batting coach’s job on the line. Hatcher brought that point up himself just this very week. Hatcher’s job is to ensure that the hitters can execute on the manager’s philosophy and, if they fail, to correct their problems until they do. That’s baseball. Anything else is wishful thinking and denial.
Nobody can deny that the Halos would have done better in those three playoff appearances if their offense had not gone to sleep.
P.S. Yes, they do.
These grown men are paid millions to be professional players, which means that they have to listen to their coaching staff. It happens so frequently that the only way to miss it is to follow baeball on the radio.
except he obviously is telling them to approach their ABs like idiots
or else this team has some of the least coachable players in mlb

I FULLY RETRACT the idea of letting Vlad get away.
This lineup might suck, but Vlad sure as hell ain’t the problem.
It’s just that this is disturbing:
Angels: 12th in runs, 13th in OBP, 12th in SLG.

This pathetic offense has been going
on for years now. What the hell. Is it the players or the coaches ?
Stay on the damn bag!!
The Soth Angels have never been much for scoring runs.
The best has only been 4th in the AL, during the 2002 World Series Championship season, and last year.

when your team’s fans give up once the other team has scored 4 runs, it’s time to actually consider signing worthwhile free agents. torii hunter and gary matthews do not fall into that category.
