Morales Vs Kotchman and a Kid Named Hank

Kendry Morales Stats Batting .324 in 45 games (188 AB) with 10 doubles 8 HRs and 37 RBIs. He is slugging .505 with an OBP of .365 and OPS of .870

Casey Kotchman Stats Batting .313 in 57 games (211 AB) with 12 doubles 6 HRs and 30 RBIs. He is slugging .455 with an OBP of .361 and OPS of .816

In the Last 10 games played

Kendry Morales .390 BA / 16 Hits / 2 Doubles / 2 HR / 5 RBI / 2 BB / 4 SO / 5 Runs (HAS a 9 game hit streak and counting....)

Casey Kotchman .282 BA / 11 Hits / 1 Double / O HR / 2 RBI / 1 BB / 1 SO / 5 Runs (Had a 5 game hit streak after game 1 or 10)

Morales beats Kotch in everything except Doubles.....I wish Scioscia would give K-Mo the starting DH role so we can watch him replicate those numbers in the BIGS. You might say that Kotch is doing better because his numbers are against Big League pitching and I agree. But Morales is Heating up (.390 BA) and I know he can pull out these numbers in the bigs like we all saw him do last year. He just needs consistant ABs and he can carry this team along with Kotch and HK47.

Hank Conger is back and he playing for Rancho Cuca-changa. In his first 5 games he has 2 Doubles and 1 HR. This Kid is going to be Something BIG in the Majors, I just hope he can stay healthy so we can see what hes got and so he can work his way up to AAA in a hurry.

I'm fine with some new blood at DH if it produces more runs,

but nobody, but nobody replaces Kotchman at first base.

Never said that someone would replace Kotch.....I want Morales, Kotch, and Kendrick to carry the team.

Kotch is Kicking ASS, I just want Morales to DH cuz he is on freakin FIRE. He hit .352 (.625 SLG) in May and is hitting .500 (.600 SLG) in June.

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you did'nt say someone should replace Kotchman.

I remember Kendry did pretty well while Kotch was injured/ill last year, and it would be nice if he could be found a place on the team. Depending on what happens with Vlad’s current state of health, we may get a chance to see Morales in a lineup. Then we could enjoy yelling, “More Cowbell!” in the game threads. I miss that.

by 44FAN on Jun 6, 2008 1:59 AM PDT up reply actions

Ha, owned.

Also, Morales’s triple A numbers vs. Kotchman’s MAJOR LEAGUE numbers are of no comparison.

Kotchman is the clear victor both offensively and defensively.

Toughen up, kid.

Every time you post you advertise the notion of displacing our finest defender, deservedly a GG candidate, and most productive offensive player, with your AAA hunk. You gotta suspect that this kind of marketing might attract some unusual attention. Deal.

I'm going to type very slowly,

and pronounce my letters very clearly so you might be able to understand this:

You made a fanpost.
In it, you argue that Kendry Morales should get more playing time.
In your signature you say that you think Kendry Morales should be the starting 1B.
You deny this stance on multiple occasions.
Every time you press a button labeled “POST,” your signature is displayed also.
In this case, your signature and your post were inherently contradictory.

My signature states that I have been a fan of the Angels since I was in 5th grade.
If I posted a comment saying, “I’ve loved the Halos since I was 3 years old,” that would be inherently contradictory.
I didn’t.
No matter what my feelings about the Angels are, I’ve still been a fan of them since I was in 5th grade.
That doesn’t change.
Your signature is inherently contradictory to the stance you are currently taking.
You said, “please tell me where I talk about "Displacing our finest defender" because Im having trouble finding it.”
I found it.

in a park that surpresses homers, while Morales is playing at the AAA level in a park that increases power numbers.

True....But my point is that Morales is on Fire and we all know he can hit for POWER in the bigs..

Last year Morales had a higher SLG than Kotch and they almost had the exact same Batting Average. Kotchman .296 (.467 SLG) vs Morales .294 (.479). Last time he went on a streak like he’s on right now he hit .483 in his first 7 games after his call up, and went on a 12 game hit streak hitting .385 (The hits streak was 12 in first 12 games from his callup.)

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by acuda27 on Jun 6, 2008 11:14 AM PDT up reply actions

Of course, that was a limited sample size, and Kotch is much better at getting on base than Morales

to the tune of .333 OBP (Morales) vs .372 OBP for Kotch. Overall then, Kotch remains a better 1B-man given his superior defense and overall superior offense.

That Morales would be a better option at DH than, say, Matthews, though, is undeniable in my opinion.

Kendry should be the DH

but it’ll never happen…not this year. Too many guys in front of him (GMJ, Rivera, willits). We’d be a better team with him as the DH though. Hopefully next year, with Rivera and GA gone, it’ll give Kendry the DH spot. Hopefully Kendy can learn to play a decent corner OF (he can’t right now) so we can give Vlad some DH days with Kendry still in the lineup.

GMJ needs to go next year if he doesn’t turn it around.

Actually comparing the raw stats to AL stats is silly.

The best players from the PCL do slide right into the NL and do fine, but the AL is a bit different.

Kendry is about 30th in OPS in the PCL, so he wouldn’t be a black hole in the majors, but we should be able to do better.

What I would like to see is Willits and RIvera in there at DH, since our 4 regular OF hate doing it so much.

Knocking GA out of the four/three spot will be next to impossible though.

More realistic would be to put GA third (assuming Kendrick keeps the 2-spot) and shift everyone down one.

Damn, acuda...

I thought you might include another analogy and lyrics from a Disney movie to drive your point home…

Back to the topic though, and as much as we’d all like to see Kowbell given a chance in the permanent DH role (and GMJ given a chance to increase his accuracy in tobacco spitting and sunflower seed consumption from deep on the bench), I don’t see this happening at all.

At this point, I’d be happy if the guys we do have on the roster can get/stay healthy.

Wait 'til next year

Or at least until/unless G.A. & Vlad break down at the same time.

Letting Anderson/Rivera/Figgins walk after ‘08 should clear up some room. For a lineup like this:

C: Naps/Math
1B: Krotch
2B: Howie
SS: Aybar
3B: Wood
LF: GMJ (until we can finally dump him after the end of ‘09
CF: Hunter
RF: Vlad
DH: Kendry
4th OF: Willits
5th IF: Izturis

That’ll be $15-20 million cheaper than this year, and hit better.

by mattwelch on Jun 6, 2008 2:15 PM PDT reply actions

and thats without any signings/trades

i agree that we can afford to let every one of those players walk.
Aybar can become a lead-off man, just as Figgins did.
we can rotate Vlad and K-Mo in RF/DH.
we have TONS of money left over for maybe a KRod signing or maybe to save until 2010, when we can sign another big hitter.
i think the young infield is definately the way to go, though. they’re cheap, talented, and will all have a god amount of experience. there’s really no downside with that.
2009 lineup?
Aybar SS
Kendrick 2B
Kotchman 1B
Vlad RF
Hunter CF
Morales DH
Napoli C
GMJ LF
Wood 3B

if Wood heats up, you bump him up a few slots and let GMJ hit 9.

Let Wood play!!!

by howiestheman on Jun 6, 2008 2:29 PM PDT up reply actions

and that's not to mention our incredible rotation

if Garland is let go, we’ll probably see

Lackey
Weaver
Santana
Saunders
Adenhart/Green

with Myspace coming out of the pen. i just dont think he’ll start again.. maybe long relief.

i love having young players that are amazing. we’re set for a LONG time

Let Wood play!!!

by howiestheman on Jun 6, 2008 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions

about that leadoff spot

I just can’t buy Aybar in that role. Great shortstop but he’ll never hit enough and he definitely won’t walk enough to bat first. Keep him ninth, and any offense out of him would be gravy. How about GMJ finally gets benched/traded/waived/released and Wiliits plays left and bats leadoff? Or see if we can re-up Figgy (only at a reasonable deal), stick Wood at short where he’d have the most value, and make Aybar your new super sub?

by dmhead on Jun 6, 2008 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah we all thought figgins would never become a lead-off hitter either

and look how that turned out.
given his talent and with a new approach, he could become a very good lead-off hitter.

if that doesnt work, then i’m all for Willits at lead-off and GMJ gone. i just dont think we’ll find anybody dumb enough to take him

Let Wood play!!!

by howiestheman on Jun 6, 2008 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not positive...

That I see Aybar as a leadoff hitter. Figgins is one of the best leadoff hitters in the game, but Aybar has nowhere near Figgy’s bat. Personally I’d like to see him stick around and maybe go back to the hyper-utility role he had a few years back. I think losing him at the top of the order would be a huge hit to our offense, as we’ve seen since he got injured this year.

by angels.vlad27 on Jun 6, 2008 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions

i just cant see krotchman hitting 3rd. he scares me too much

i see him as more of a solid 5th. i think we need some more pop. perhaps we could trade something like green, wood, mathis, and sandoval and mosely to the rays for evan longoria. although thats not happening. perhaps we can sign maybe like blalock or dunn to a deal, and then try and dump GMJ. An outfield of Willits, Torii, and Vlad with Dunn Dhing and wood and k-mo splitting time at third would be preferable in my opinion. so..
C-Naps/Mathis
1B- Kotch
2B- Howie
SS- Aybar/ Mice tits
3B- K-Mo/ Dick
LF- Reggie
CF- Torii
RF- Vlad
DH- Dunn

both adam dunn and k-mo could also fill in in the outfield. also Q qould as well.

Not a lot of love for Figgins in this post...

...I can’t think of a single sporting reason why I’d rather have Wood playing at 3rd ahead of Figgins next year. Figgins is a lead-off man of the highest caliber playing in his prime. Wood’s time will come, but not this year, and unless something remarkable happens, it won’t be next either.

by howiestheman on Jun 6, 2008 7:25 PM PDT up reply actions

true

although mo vaughn i believe was a fluke. the dude had 3 straight years of OPS+s over 150 and OBPs of over .400, a .315 BA, and a .560 SLG. he was 30 however. if you compare the numbers, adam dunn is nowhere near the player mo vaughn is. i mean adam dunns career high BA is .266. He hasnt OBPd over .401 over a full season, and only slugged .560 once (not including a partial rookie season). I think the park factors are about the same, as fenway and Great American are both hitters parks. Adam dunn does strike out alot though. but he does have alot of patience, which could translate to other players taking more pitches, and its a fearfull power bat which we pretty badly need.
and nothing against figgy, its just im not sure the angels will resign him because hell want 8+ million, and i think that management believes that he can be replaced by the farm system, and although he has been a catalyst the past two years, the team will survive without him

Ichiro

We make the deal with the M’s and stupid Bavasi to that sinking ship of the mariners for Ichiro.

In return for the last 3-4 years of a Hall of Fame career in Ichiro, we could give up any number of spare parts.

Bullpen help: Speier or Shields (now that Arredondo has arrived)
Outfield in two positions: Matthews and or Rivera or Willits
And maybe a prospect: Not Wood.

So 3-4 players for Ichiro (2-3 major leaguers) plus assume the rest of Ichiro’s contract as long as they assume HGH’s.

Am I mad, mad and drunk, just drunk, or does this make the perfect sense to anyone else that it does to me?

Many fans talk about Wood being jerked around

Kendry’s bat has probably been Major League ready for the last few years and he is stuck in AAA. He just needs to be slotted in the DH spot, doesn’t even have to take anything from Krotch at first, just a position where he can hit in the Major Leagues on a regular basis instead of wilting away at Salt Lake.

by BBFan1 on Jun 6, 2008 11:08 PM PDT reply actions

KMo is ready

He has shown he can hit big league pitching, and he will only get better with regular playing time in the bigs. Plus, for whatever reason, I just get really excited whenever he comes up to bat!

The complication is the Vlad is heading towards full-time DH soon. If KMo could learn LF (could he be worse than Manny?), next year we could rotate Vlad, JR, Willits, KMo, GMJ (unfortunately) through the corner outfield spots plus DH. Then trade GMJ for a bag of balls in 2010 when his no-trade expires.

I think KMo is blocked by GMJ (sadly), JR, and Willits this year. I would be happy to see GMJ sit down (damn the money, it is a sunk cost), and have JR/Willits play the rotating corner outfielder/DH role.
