A few days ago I made my case that this team isn’t that far off from being a contender
Uh, weren’t they supposed to kick our butts and win the West, especially after that big important Spring Training win?

Ha. 44fan representin' on that thread. Also, I laughed when I saw the main pic for LL on their homepage...its just a dude with his head in his hands. They know their role.
Whatever dude.

Oh. Gotcha...although to be fair LL will probably refer to him as "some dude" by tomorrow.
I hope they keep that pic on their front page the rest of the season.
Whatever dude.

We should resign Rivera
post-haste. Then make it clear to GMJ that he will be sitting on the bench until his no trade clause expires if he won’t agree to a trade.
i'd rather see Kendry take GMJ's role
Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.

I think the Angels will let JR walk away as a free agent after this season
I like Rivera and think he should be a starting OF/DH for the rest of this season. But despite the fact that he is superior to GMJ he gets no playing time. My guess is that with JR leaving and Garland ($12m) and GA ($13m) also leaving as free agents, this will free up payroll (as well as a spot in LF) for the Angels to throw big dollars at either Adam Dunn or Pat Burrell (both are free agents after 2008).
So Juan Rivera could very well end up on the Mariners in 2009.

$2.025MM is JRivera's pay in 2008.
That’s clearing payroll?
GA’s salary is $12MM iln ‘08. ......$14MM in ‘09 or a $3MM buyout. THAT is clearing payroll.
Honestly, I cannot understand anyone’s insistance on getting rid of Juan Rivera.
Garland and GA leaving IS clearing payroll.
I never mentioned anything about Juan’s pay as clearing payroll. As I noted in my post, I like Rivera and he deserves to play. But the Angels don’t seem very interested in him (note the lack of 1st half ABs, but hopefully that will change). I am NOT insisting on getting rid of Juan – I think he would be a cost-effective option in 2009 as a regular OF/DH. However the Angel’s track record of going after big dollar free agents suggests they’ll be up to to something this offseason via free agency.
