SInce Seattle and the A's have conceded the West
Perhaps Mike S. should just use the end of July and start of August to rest the regulars and then crank it up again around Aug. 10 or so.
Last year's idea of using the end of the season to rest the regulars didn't work out too well vs. Call me crazy and I know there's A LONG way to go, but why not give it a shot?
You play GMJ, Willits and Rivera 3 days a week in the OF, let Budde catch 2 days a week and go with an INF of Kotchman, Isturus, Aybar and Figgins.
Let the starters miss 1 start to freshen up and let Shields close a game or two and Jose A. do some set-up duty to get them ready for next season.
Thoughts?

Considering the relative inefficiency of the offense
all throughout May and June, we’ve only just recently begun to click together and utilize the bats in the lineup and produce this month.
Reducing consistent playing time will NOT help everyday position players, especially younger, less experienced players like Willits, Mathis, Kendrick, Iztu, Aybar, even Kotch. All of these guys need to see more ABs and play out on the field more to get a rhythm going to take with them into September and (hopefully) October with success.
Now the pitching staff is another story. Pitchers are going to wear down and fatigue as the long dog-days of summer labor on. Lackey should be fine as he’s proven he can pitch a full season and still have gas to spare; Garland has shown the same as he’s a major league starting innings eater if he’s not lights out, which is fine. Again the kids’ arms come into contention: how will Santana hold up after 200-220IP? Saunders after a full MLB season? Will Weaver be able to throw his herky-jerky body in late September after he’s thrown above 180IP?
All of this remains to be seen, but what we HAVE seen so far is a winning team that is second in the majors by a half game. Unfortunately the most vulnerable point of this team is also its most successful, but it is likely best to charge on towards September and hope that the depth of the system can support the occasional injury.

saunders actually pitched 242 innings last year between AAA and the MLB
and in his last 7 starts had a 6.63 ERA. we need to make sure he doesnt go over 210-20 innings this year.

Why are you counting Texas out?
Did you watch the last 4 games in Arlington? Did you know that if you threw out Texas’ April record they would be even with the Halos right now? Since May 1st, Texas is 38-27 and the Angels are 37-26.
I’m not trying to be confrontational and I agree that a quick glance at their rotation (if you want to call it that) brings laughter, but who needs pitching when you can easily put up 8, 9, 10 runs on any given night.
IMO, there’s no chance Sosh takes his foot off the peddle. I wish he was afforded that luxury but, no chance.

I'm not counting out the Rangers, A's or M's.
It’s still WAY too early.
Yes; the chokes of the past still resonate strongly with me.

M's = courtesy considered.
Appreciated too, but we’ve moved on to the battle for the #1 draft pick. Our division has Washington, San Diego and Cleveland in it.
Yeah ‘95 happened, but it’s the exception to the rule. These boys of yours are in a much better position to avoid collapse, IMO, and facing lesser teams then the ‘95 squad.

I'll feel safe
When the second place team’s games behind is one more than games left. Plus, were playing for home field advantage. Let’s not get too comfortable.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

66 more combinations of Angel wins and Oakland losses still needed.
63 between Texas and the Angels, 52 between the M’s and the Angels.
That is a LOT of baseball games to be won and lost.
Way too early to call those guys “out.”
The Angels are looking to be in a good position… but then again, so was Leon Lett when he started celebrating a touchdown runback in a Super Bowl once….

i dont understand the logic here
getting healthy is fine i guess, but theres way to do it that dont leave our stars pissed off and our offense vulnerable

The Rangers SUCK!
They won’t get anywhere except third place with their pathetic pitching staff.

they beat the angels twice and the other two times they easily could have won
if the rangers hadnt gotten so many line outs.
Their rotation has 6 injuries. padilla, hurley, gabbard, mccarthy, mathis, millwood
you guys faced ONE of thier regular starters out of 4 games.

If you’re a Grich fan… that means you must be a fan longer than I have been… which means you must’ve actually gone through the agonies rather than read about them…
Confused I am.
