Old Man Take a Look At Those Sox

Panther of the Game: Garret Anderson

Win12_medium

Big Bang Friday came a little bit early tonight in the happiest place on Earth in front of Angel fans and Pink-Hat Nation transplants who know at least three or four of their beloved Red Sawgs, tonight's utter losers.

BIG GA

I love how right after the show-boat Ramirez homer to tie the game, GA comes back like “This is MY HOUSE, BITCH.”

GA is so lazy

he could’ve kept going, but already knew he had the Panther locked up.

I’m gonna go drink heavily to GA!

by TheTypingFiend on Jul 18, 2008 9:48 PM PDT   0 recs

If GA wasn't so lazy

He’d have found a way to get a fifth AB and gone 5 for 5 instead :)

Way to go GA! There are those of us who have never doubted you.

Credit to ESPN sportscenter for giving an interesting stat:

Angels starters lead the majors in wins and innings pitched. Most overrated rotation in baseball, right sox fans?

My diet for tomorrow, courtesy of our Halos onslaught

Lunch: Claim Jumper Sliders
Dinner: Claim Jumper Sliders

Thanks, Manny, for being Manny tonight. You make Jose Canseco look like Roberto Clemente in the field.

Hey, that's right!

Was this the first qualifying sliders game?

I'm not sure -- have we had the Claim Jumper promo all season?

you know what pisses me off?

any one, if not more of our great defensive plays would’ve been “web gems” or “top plays” if they were made by the Sawx. we turned 3 great DPs (especially the one in the 1st), had a number of great stops (Figgy and Howie) and we get absolutely nothing!

....grrrrrrrrrr

but, that chip on our shoulder is getting bigger and we flexed our muscles tonight. great win, boys.

by howiestheman on Jul 18, 2008 11:51 PM PDT   0 recs

i think i saw howies 1st inning DP on web gems dude... yeah there were plenty of others

yeah espnnews highlights shows manny’s homer, then GA’s homer… aaaand thats about it… guess they dont want to wound the RSN’s ego too much

didn't watch BBTN

i just figured it wouldn’t be on there because of the short Sportscenter highlight.
in any case, good for Howie.

but still… had Boston won 11-3, there would’ve been at least 10 minutes of coverage rom the game, plus in-depth analysis on everything they dominated us in.
on the other hand, we blow them out and it’s like an afterthought. they barely mention it, then quickly move to something else.

just venting. nothing more, nothing less

GONNA BE THERE SUNDAY

Panther has to go to G.A., a good day in the Halosphere since all other AL West teams lost. Did anybody else notice how ESPN went through great pains to minimize Manny’s error in LF? Or the fact that we beat the chowder out of the bosux. Oh well, I guess it’s just a simple case of ESPN being ESPN.

== Resident Point Tallier ==

by scottnak on Jul 19, 2008 2:45 AM PDT   0 recs

Dear scottnak,

According to Fangraphs Playlog, they record only three DP’s in the game which would make the answer to the question: Over/Under 3.5 total number of DP’s in the game by both teams, as “Under” for the correct answer. Your have it as “Over” on your results which should be incorrect if Fangraphs Playlog is accurate.
Fangraphs lists Drew grounding into DP in the 1st, Ellsbury grounding into DP in the 3rd, and Pedroia grounding into DP in the 8th inning. No Angel players hit into any DP’s. You may want to check that result. Thanks again for all the great work you do at the HH!

by 44FAN on Jul 19, 2008 4:09 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

My man 44fan ...

In the official boxscore, they list the Angels hitting into a double play. It was on the play in the third inning when Vlad was on first and then Torii flied out to Ellsbury in CF. Vlad got doubled off first on the play, so according to MLB records it goes down as DP for Boston’s defence, but not a GIDP for Hunter.

If I recall, I think Rev’s question was: “over/under total double plays both teams” not “total GIDPs”. So technically I think scottnak is correct (and not just cuz I got 3 out of 3!) :)

(And why wouldn’t he be correct? When he gets out of Berserkely and start making zillions of dollars as a rocket scientist or whatever he’s doing, hopefully scottnak will invite us all to his palatial mansion on the Dana Point coast for annual HH parties)

Thanks for the clarification highlandhalo. (And Rev.)

I remember that now from watching the game last night as soon as I read your comment. I apologize to scottnak if I gave him a start.

by 44FAN on Jul 19, 2008 12:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm sure he'll still give you an invite the HH sessions

with naked strippers at his palatial Dana Point seaside mansion once it’s built. You go scottnak, we’re all counting on you.

It's a good day to be a non-stop G.A. supporter

and ESPN showed really short highlights of the game on Sportscenter, but I stuck around and watched the rest of the show, and they were all pretty damn short today…but the Angels/Sox game led off the baseball highlights, so we win out I guess. They just had to save up enough time to discuss what color shorts Brett Favre wore to get the paper this morning, and what it means to the Packers’ G.M.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Jul 19, 2008 2:54 AM PDT   0 recs

When they talked about GA's homerun and multiple hits they called him "Mr. Anderson,"

and they called the team Los Angeles of Anaheim once that I heard.

We love if you GA

If we weren’t so lazy we’d worship you.

Sorry folks, I fell asleep in the the middle of the game thread once we had the big lead. With mrs highlandhalo and son away, it was just to easy to stretch out on that spare bed in the study with the game on MLB.TV and zzzzzzzzz. Won’t happen again, I promise. Earlier starts!

Hey Rev...

I am obsessed with picking up on all the references (it’s probably an OCD like disorder), and I’m confused on this thread’s title. I see a Neil Young thing happening, but I’m not quite making the connection. No disrespect intended, but can you explain this one to me? I realize this may be a strange request, but keep in mind I am a huge proponent of Guinness Stout, and am currently under said influence. This would probably explain some of my other lame posts, and for that I apologize. But rest assured, I am a die-hard, and my shit-talking is not to be taken seriously.

Having said that, please explain the Neil Young reference. Man, I am drunk.

Me thinks it's

A simple play on the lyrics in the song Old Man. Don’t think too hard on this one Red.

Or maybe it’s deeper than that and Rev is pointing out that GA is not the stonefaced machine most of us think of him as and indeed does have needs. Most notably, just to be loooooved by folks here on a consistent basis.

Old man take a look at my life
I’m a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that’s true.

Anytime you see “Old Man” on this blog ti is a reference to one of two people: G.A. or Me.
