Who is this Juan Rivera guy?
We have a lot of Panthers on the offense today, hell Joe threw a pretty good game, only to get sabotaged by his defense. Clearly, Johnny Rivers gets the nod over Hokie Joe and his 12th win of the season. Congratulations to Joe for his AL leading 12th win of the season and to Frank Rodriguez for his 85th save of the year
Panther: Juan Rivera

Juan Rivera

it's gotta be either the Colonel or Johnny Rivers
Colonel pitched a great game, but Rivers put us ahead.
i say give it to Juan.

I thought...
you were going to say “see this wood thing…it’s a BAT; learn how to use it.”

Juancho, hands down
This is a team in desperate need of three-run homers. He needs HH voodoo to get more playing time!

I'm gonna go with Juan.
That homer was ginormous.

GA, for letting Juanito play
and Juanito, for proving he needs more ABs

Tough call man, but Juan Rivera changed the game totally with one swing
No discredit to Joe Saunders, who was equally luminous and has the 12 wins to prove it.

I have a much better question:
What is that oddly shaped numeral representing the Angels’ total runs scored for the day?
by Stirrups on Jul 2, 2008 3:45 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah...like a squiggly ONE or something...
by Downing Rules on Jul 2, 2008 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think to represent that we won the game & series
The scorers have flipped an L upside down.
by TheTypingFiend on Jul 2, 2008 3:48 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ah! "7" means "anti-L", as in "anti-lose", and
anti-lose means WIN!
Makes perfect sense now. Thanks.

Juan with the POTG in a landslide
Joe pitched well w/o his best stuff which reminded me of Chuck Finley. He didn’t have his normally great control of his fastball and this curve definitely was not his best version. He had a good change though today and it seemed like he used it a bit more than normal.

JUANCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO = POTG
I yelled that so loud when he hit it out and it felt good to say it again.

Yeah
I felt kinda bad for Akbar after his terrible throw to 2nd costing the Halos a run. You could tell that he was really beating himself up for that god-awful toss.
During his next at-bat he had a look on his face like “I’m gonna whack this pinche pelota deep even if I have to get in my car and drive it there”

Rivera
He’s the guy who hit the big one. The Admiral’s was just insurance, and his error led to the run anyways.

Gotta be Rivera
with a runner up to both Hokie Joe and to ET.
Hokie Joe for pitching a great game, and to ET for keeping it cool after SideSalad and E-Bar gave up the run.

Dear Scottnak...
Although I’d love to take an extra point (and you can still give it to me if you want) I have to say that you messed up my line…. you put Figgins- Kotch- Kotch for 2 pts… instead of figgy – Kotch -Vlad for 1 pt… Don’t wanna get called a cheater… gotta win fair and square…
Show 'em your a panther... Show 'em what you can do....

on a side note – Figgins needs to start getting on base in the leadoff spot…

Juan Rivera tells the A's to Foulke off! What a sweet series win.
After the disappointment of Monday’s loss, these two wins were great. Nice to see the Angels play long ball with two HRs, but also mix in some text book small ball in the way the Angels scored HK twice from 2nd base without the benefit of a base hit.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!
by Fan Since 1981 on Jul 2, 2008 5:58 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
see, that is how a team should win
there was a good balance of small ball and power in today’s game.
we had guys get on, over and in with the small ball, and them 3 runs off of homers. if we can figure out how to mix in both of those, we will have a very good shot in October

How about Hud
for calling Juan’s HR. I love that he said that JR was going to “dial 8” (for long distance), a really great, obscure phrase if I ever heard one.
More JR (and Kowbell)! Chicks dig the long ball, but guys like ‘em, too!

I think perhaps Dial-8 should be Juan's new official nickname.
He doesn’t really have any inspired ones right now. (The Colonel or ET, for example)
