Dan Shaughnessy Taunts Halos

ANAHEIM, Calif. - I want to take the Angels seriously. I want to believe they can challenge the Red Sox should they meet again in October.

But it's hard to get into a lather about a threat from California. Memories of past Octobers keep flashing through my mind. When I close my eyes I see Angels who never got into hardball heaven while playing the Red Sox in the postseason . . . .

Given that the Yanks could easily move to 2 games back in the loss column today.

You’d think Shaughnessy would be more worried about GETTING to the playoffs.

I was just trying to post a fanpost about this same article

and lost it…pissed me off even more than I already was at the arrogance of this worthless RedSux columnist!

I prefered to read Dilbeck’s article. Make a statement!

And Plunkett’s article about HGH Jr’s torn ACL and petellar tendon.

Shaunessey merely re-emphasized the arrogance of the BoSux fans and media! Excuse me while I go vomit! Make the playoffs and beat the Rays/Yanks this year before you go popping off about see you in October!

This is BAD Vlad and his band of wimps! (can't change it now, cuz the last time I did...he started sucking again!)

Red Sox don't make the playoffs

I hope our players saw that shit and shove the broom straight up their asses tonight.

For a team with a 21-31 road record

and currently not in position for home field in the playoffs, he’s pretty goddamn cocky.

Keith Law

Keith Law also commented on the Angels today.

ESPN radio host: “Are the L.A. Angels of Anaheim the best team in baseball?”

Law: “Not even close.”

Law went on to say that the Angels benefit from playing in a weak division. The Angels pitch well but the team’s offense sucks. Its philosophy of putting the ball in play and making things happen on the basepaths is out-dated. And, should the Angels meet up w/ Boston in the play-offs, the front end of the Boston’s rotation and Boston’s big bats would prove too much for the Angels again.

"out-dated"

Now that is a “spreadsheet” commentary if ever there was one. For the first time on a long while Boston does not have THREE doormats and is actually in a tight race and WE are in the weak division? With the holy Billy Beane’s Moneyabll draft maturing?

The AL West has had the best record for 8 consecutive years, in terms of games over .500

Not only that, but as this list shows, having the best division does NOT correlate with producing the pennant winner … except for 2002!

2007
AL West: +18
AL Central: -2
AL East: +6 BOSTON

2006
AL West: +32
AL Central: +32 DETROIT
AL East: -18

2005
AL West: +14
AL Central: -6 CHICAGO
AL East: +12

2004
AL West: +32
AL Central: -40
AL East: +20 BOSTON

2003
AL West: +26
AL Central: -80
AL East: +22 YANKS

2002
AL West: +86 ANGELS
AL Central: -76
AL East: -16

2001
AL West: +84
AL Central: -30
AL East: -44 YANKS

2000
AL West: +19
AL Central: +10
AL East: -12 YANKS

I like the fact that the media gives us give us no respect

this reduces mindless bandwagoners and will make the 2nd World Series of this decade even that much sweeter for true Angel fans like on this blog. Most of these columnists are like political columnists or radio talk show hosts, they get paid to write or talk, they most often have nothing to write or talk about so they just make stuff up without little knowledge. When people like Matt Welch provides some good empirical data (like above) they shrink because they deal in “opinion” not fact based argument. Ask Mr. S. to name the Angels’ starting lineup and see what he says. Sweep away.

"Meanwhile, Vladimir Guerrero looks more and more like Rico Carty every day."

Carty played in 150 games all of twice in his career; 140 games three times. Assuming he stays healthy, Vlad will get to 150 for the 9th time in 11 years; to 140 for the 10th. Carty got to 25 homers twice; Vlad will make it to 11 straight years some time in August or September. Carty drove in 101 runs once; Vlad’s topped that 9 different times.

Carty played until he was 39, and was a helluva hitter … and Vlad, at 32, has already eclipsed him in every major offensive category.

Don't be too hard on Shaugnessy fellas.

After all, us fading in October is the only chance his Sox have.

How do you say "eat shit" in a Chowd accent

“eaaat sheeeert”?
“eight shite”?
“et shut”?

I suppose it depends upon how drunk the Chowd is when they say it.

Anyway, Shaughnessy and all your Irish brothers: “Eat shit” ... (California accent) Enjoy the sweep. Now go home.

I can't disagree with his point.

Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

Put it on the bulletin board...

maybe it will motivate somebody…

But, you are right…he is right. They’ve owned the Angels for a while and July means nearly nothing.
