This is Why We Can't Make Trades!
Per MLBTraderumors:
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/07/angels-balk-at.html
In order for us to get Holliday, the Rockies were asking us for Adenhart, Howie, AND a Santana/Saunders. Rockies are out of their minds and are obviously not serious about trading him. Do they even realize that 2 of those 3 items aren't even prospects anymore?
Remember this when you complain about Stoneman/Reagins not getting trades done. Other teams don't treat us seriously and they try to buy our farm off for chump change.
Rockies can keep Holliday and shove it!

I AGREE
Except I do not ever complain about Stoneman/Reagins.

other teams always seem to expect something outrageous from us.

It is a negotiation ploy to ask for the moon...
It is then the job of Reagins to counter with Sean Rodriguez OR Brandon Wood straight-up for Holliday. Then see where it goes…
If they rolled in and asked for Quinlan and Willits – they’d get burned at the stake.

fact is
if they are even MENTIONING that there have been some discussions, you can bet that we have been hard-nosed negotiating with them.

Arte Moreno
talks about Holliday and why the team probably won’t trade for a big bat in today’s L.A. Times . . .
‘July, of course, heralds the season when fans wonder whether their Angels will trade for a big bat.
‘They won’t.
’”I don’t see anyone that can come in here for two months and hand me a World Series trophy,” owner Arte Moreno said.
‘They won’t trade for that big bat, not under this ownership, not if picking up Matt Holliday means giving up two good young pitchers, with no guarantee Holliday would stick around very long.
’”I think pitching wins,” Moreno said. “If your pitching can’t keep you in the game, I don’t think you can win a championship. . . .”’

I agree with what Arte said in the LA Times article.
I would rather buy Holliday in free agency than trade any starting pitchers for him.

Except for Adenhart
I wouldn’t trade anyone listed straight up for Holliday.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

That's insane
talent-wise, Santana is the pitching equivalent to Holliday…and this year his numbers even prove it. That would be a fair one-for-one trade. Adding anything else on, especially a hitter as good as Kendrick, and a top-tier pitching prospect is like asking the Mets to give us Johan for Hainley Statia.

dont pull a brave
texeira for:
elvis andrus SS- 19 years old in AA- 40 steals and .300 avg and well above-average defemse
Neftali Feliz- P- 20 years old in AA- throws 100mph efortlessly and era below 2 with k/9 around 10
Matt Harrison-P-22 years old- lefty, era 3.3 in AA and then AAA now in the pros
Jarrod Saltalamcchia- 22year old switch hitting catcher with power potential and average defense

also the Red Sox
trade for Gagne—with those two trades the Rangers really stocked their farm system. We’re going to have to worry about them in 2010+. Luckily for us, we’ll have another WS title or two before that day comes.
Go Angels!

The real mistake in this trade
was the Braves assuming they were in contention for that division when they clearly were not…the player they got in return is an absolutely premiere talent.
