George Sherrill makes us better
Trading for Sherrill makes a lot of sense to me. I would trade Willits, Quinlin and/or a couple of "B" prospects for him. He would round out our bullpen and give us another option when Frankie signs with the Yankees during the off season. Shields, Speier and Sherrill - all have at least some experience closing out ballgames. Mix in the phenom (Arrendondo) and we should have a pretty good battle for the closer position next year. Hell, there is a good possibility Escobar might return in a relief capacity and that would create another solid option at the back end. Mentally I have already prepared myself for life after Frankie and I think the Halos would be wise to do the same. At the same time, I know Reagins will appreciate the extra 15MM to go big bat shopping this winter.

If that's the price to obtain Sherrill (Q and Willits), plus secondary
prospects, then do it. However, I think every team willing to trade with us will demand our top tier farm talent (Adenhart, Walden, Conger, among others).

What if all it took was...
Adenhart and Willits? Or Rivera and another top tier prospect?
I think we can’t afford to keep Frankie, especially if there is no home team discount. Sherrill’s is the 3rd best closer in the AL. Just behind Papelbon. It makes sense to me.

He's not really, he just has more opportunities.
Sherrill has blown 6 saves in 35 opportunities. That’s close to 20% failure rate. In Frankie’s shoes, he’d have 7 or 8 blown.
Getting Sherrill at this point just doesn’t make any sense. We’ve got a pretty good bullpen, to the point that Speier and O’Day now barely get any work. I’d rather keep Willits especially, plus I doubt Baltimore is willing to part with Sherrill as cheaply as a couple of backup players that don’t really play positions the Orioles need.

Lefty
Fuentes or Marte make more sense. Sherrill has three years of service time left and will be expensive to trade for. Also I am not convinced he is a big time closer. He has been shaky at times this year.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

Sherrill is not good.
His 1.42 WHIP indicates he lets quite a few runners on base. Compare that number to our relievers’: Arredondo 0.82, Shields 1.19, Frankie 1.25, Oliver 1.24, Speier 1.45, O’Day 1.45. Do we another reliever who’s going to perform at the Speier and Oday level? And should we really give anything to get such a person?

Snowhor...
good analysis. Sherrill sucks ass. Closers are a dime a dozen – don’t trade anyone for him. I’d rather bring up a warm body from SLC to fill out the bullpen than trade for Sherrill. Flash in the pan.

Interesting
I thought O’Day was more consistant than that. Surprising. And Frankie sure does seem to put a hell of a lot of guys on base this year. I’m surprised his WHIP isn’t higher. Have I been watching the same team?
I swear, if one more person tells me to "work smarter, not harder"...

O'Day has been more consistent of late.
His early appearances were punctuated by numerous, numerous walks.

Awesome!
(is she still as hot as she was in 1982?)

If it's the 1982 Cheryl Tiegs I'm down with that
Put her on the strike force. Otherwise, if its the 2008 Cheryl Tiegs no deal. Even Quinlan ain’t as crusty as that.

Nor as thoroughly traveled.
Francisco Rodriguez: 186 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

I would trade him for gonorrhea.
Sometimes, ya gotta trade loathsome for loathsome.

Maybe we don't have to. Do you think penicillin would also get rid of GMJ?

Penicillin, de-lousing, a little Agent Orange
anything to make GMJ waive his no-trade clause.

Bulger might get his chance.
No, he’s not left handed. But Jason Bulger was specifically acquired to fulfill a perceived need while allowing a future major leaguer Alberto Callaspo to leave. Bulger’s numbers in AAA are eye popping. Combine that with Shields, Speier, Arredondo, and Marek in the wings, the Angels have potential closers everywhere.
