~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 7:38 PM PDT up reply actions

He was tagging along behind the ball as it was hitting ground,

he took some type of shitty route for it…

This is why we need a defensive CF’er to play every day regardless of how shitty he hits. (GMJ, I”m looking at you)

by shiftyeyedgoat on Jul 22, 2008 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Uh... we have one.

He’s on the bereavement list. Juice hasn’t played CF hardly at all.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, you're right...

a career defensive CF’er should definitely have less of a feel for the routes over a career RF’er who is in his second year in the bigs.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Jul 22, 2008 7:42 PM PDT up reply actions

if i recall correctly

willits is better than GMJ by some metrics

http://inplaynoouts.blogspot.com/ - A blog about teams I like, written by me.

by Carl Johnson on Jul 22, 2008 7:43 PM PDT up reply actions

His career 54 games in center spanned over three seasons

are definitely enough of a sample size to compare to GMJ’s 662.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Jul 22, 2008 7:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Except GMJ has never really been a great defensive CF.

Over any part of that sample. He’s got some neat plays, but as far as actual range he’s kinda sub-par.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 7:47 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not like it would be hard.

GMJ has been known for taking bad routes himself.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 7:46 PM PDT up reply actions

his career RF is 2.64 in CF.

That’s not too shabby, when compared to Ichiro’s 2.95 CF and 2.3 RF

by shiftyeyedgoat on Jul 22, 2008 7:47 PM PDT up reply actions

RF is as bad as Fielding %

ZR is better.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Got me...

I don’t delve into stat books to figure out how to measure a player’s worth.

But Torii Hunter is a 7 time Gold Glover. It seems being a step below that is a compliment.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Jul 22, 2008 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Gold Gloves are meaningless

But in this case, it’d be like the difference between a career .280 hitter, and a career .260 hitter. I should also point out that the bast two years where he’s had a full season of time, he’s been .850 ZR in center, which is bad.

~Till the Halo burns out...

I bet he had a lot of swing’s and misses at his pitches. How can you not be distracted at the plate?

Dondo

If that were next season, and the 9th, that would have looked a lot like Frankie this season. See? There ain’t no use to runnin’ from the high wire act that is a closer, ‘cuz there ain’t no place that far away.

It is what it is.

Francisco Rodriguez: 186 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

by Stirrups on Jul 22, 2008 9:22 PM PDT reply actions

People here go ape-shyte on Frankie's closing process.

And declare that they cannot wait for Arrendondo to take over next season once Frankie leaves for money. Good riddance, they are inferring.

But that inning looked suspiciously like a Frankie inning. Nobody peeped.

My point is that it is all the same thing. What causes nervousness now will do the same next year, but people cannot just blame it on Frankie. And, in the end, if ‘Dondo is not as successful as Frankie and we have to go through much the same process, we did a bad thing by not re-signing Frankie.

All-Ugly:

Ok, after moving Kruk to DH and Nixon to PH, I fill out CF with Willie McGee and agree that Joe Torre is Manager, making my final list of All-Ugly Team look like:

C: Jorge Posada
1B: Kevin Youklis
2B: Damion Easley
3B: Ty Wigginton
SS: Jolbert Cabrera
LF: Pete Rose
CF: Willie McGee
RF: Ben Francisco
DH: John Kruk
PH: Otis Nixon
P1: Randy Johnson
P2: Don Mossi
P3: Derrick Turnbow
P4: Aaron Harang
P5: Braden Looper
MGR: Joe Torre
OWNER: Marge Schott
COMMISSIONER: Bud Selig

Francisco Rodriguez: 186 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

Yeah, he's a good add.

I don’t have bench coach, base coach, bullpen coach, announcers, etc. Add away…

by TheOptimist on Jul 22, 2008 9:31 PM PDT reply actions

1 hit and two LDs

I’ll take that over GMJ every day of the week.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 9:31 PM PDT reply actions

it's getting old

why does GMJ even have to be brought up during game threads when he’s not playing? Juan Rivera is getting all the PT now and deservingly so.

by SCHalo on Jul 22, 2008 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions

But he's not.

He got taken out just yesterday for Juice

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions

it's still getting old

and Sosh probably figured maybe last night was a good chance to get GMJ in to see where he was. he SAW where he was and here we are tonight. i don’t think anyone is worried about Juan’s PT being threatened.

by SCHalo on Jul 22, 2008 9:42 PM PDT up reply actions

agree

he shouldn’t play if he’s hurt and in this case sucking and hurt. Juan is the hot guy right now.

by SCHalo on Jul 22, 2008 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Or for instance

getting taken out in the 8th for Juice during a 1-run game.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 9:46 PM PDT up reply actions

sans last night

i don’t mind late inning defensive replacement time for him.

by SCHalo on Jul 22, 2008 9:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, but I'm not sure Juice is really a defensive replacement

though once hunter comes back it’ll start being Willits again.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Jul 22, 2008 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions

i'll take a healthy GMJ as a late inning replacement

over willits. better arm and range. i like willits too.

by SCHalo on Jul 22, 2008 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know about either of those.

And GMJ is not healthy in any case.
