Wow
What a horrible suggestion.
Simers should just go back to being the Doyer’s unofficial gossip columnist.

Gut our team.
Other teams seem to be able to acquire RENTALS for prospects why can’t we? WTF?
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

Neither Simers, nor Shaggymessy
could even make a dollar off their own blog were it nor for the outdated publishing models that still foist them up our asses.

that is simply the most ridiculous statement i have ever heard.

The trade is ridiculous but unfortunately the premise is NOT.

Agreed
I was just over at Christina Kahrl’s chat today when she mentioned in passing how little the Angels are actually getting offensively from Casey Kotchman. Sadly, she’s right: he’s got a 103 OPS+, and since OPS is heavily weighted by total bases, that indicates a significant lack of power production. On the other hand, first basemen in the AL aren’t really doing all that much; ranked by VORP, Kotchman places fifth overall with a 13.0 score at the position. Still, if he’s going to turn into Mark Grace, Jr. (my best guess at what his career would look like), he’d better start walking like he did last year.

The lack of walks is really annoying me as well.
I think his value diminishes significantly when he is not getting on base at a .400 clip. He does not hit for enough power.

VORP doesn't include defense though.

True
On the other hand I would be surprised if his excellent defense were worth ten runs a year. My point in invoking VORP was mainly to illustrate that he’s not a far back of his peers as his 103 OPS+ seems to indicate. Nevertheless, his 2008 has to be seen as somewhat of a disappointment.

Really?
I dunno. Given the kind of picks out of the dirt Kotch makes look easy, his heads-up play on way off balance throws, plus his great range, I think Kotch might very well be worth 15-20 runs at first over a full season.

Shaughnessy is a biased homer
And Simers is an annoying hack.
