i like this quote
“The Angels’ organizational power comes from Trumbo, teammate Hank Conger, Ben Johnson in Salt Lake. Even though Brandon Wood has struggled for years with the strikeout virus, the Angels think he’s one winter-ball season away from coming to Anaheim and sticking.“
Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.
When I first read that,
my interpretation was that BWood has a job at SS or 3B next spring, barring total collapse…......they won’t make him a bench player.
Having said that, who sit’s and/or goes away?
i interpret it the same way
because it sounds pretty straightforward.
like I said in another thread, the way figgins is playing this year makes me think we should not resign him for next year. whatever haynes was doing, he was doing well. without him, figgins is lost…. i dont know. any way you look at it, hes really bad this year, especially for a lead-off guy.
that being the case, Woody becomes our new third baseman next year. talk about a young, powerful core…
1B Kotch
2B Howie
SS Aybar
3B Wood
C Napoli/Mathis
let Woody bat 8th or 9th til he figures it all out, then move him up in the order.

figgy is not a FA this year
his contract is up and will be arbitration time. FA next year. So we either trade him, sign him LT, sign him for 1 year or let him walk. The later is not an option.
I seriously doubt Scoicsia gives wood the job at 3B and sends figgy away. Figgy is a favorite of MS. I think figgy stays on this team not matter what as the leadoff hitter.
Don’t get me wrong, i think we would be best to use figgy + others for a big trade getting a corner OF big bat to replace GA/Rivera/GMJ. Then give Wood the 3B job—he’ll struggle alot during the year, but it’ll pay off eventually.
Go Angels!
Figgy can still play OF himself
if that’s where a spot opens up. If we trade him, (which seems perfectly likely, to be honest) the problem becomes who leads off? Izturis is good at it when he’s not spectacularly unlucky, but what of S-Rod? Our options then turn to Willits, who could play any of the outfield spots, but that would mean sacrificing our shot at a power bat to replace GA (just fine with me, to be honest; anyone not named Rivera won’t be worth what they’ll cost).
We’re going to head into this offseason with a ton of options. It will be interesting to see what happens. We know we need at least one starter to replace Garland since Escobar will still be gone and Adenhart probably needs another season in the minors.

Talk about subpar production from a corner outfield spot.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

Eh.
If you’re getting mass power from SS and 3B then who cares if your leadoff hitter plays right? Imagining that which position you play is more important than the role you occupy in the lineup is one of the sabermetric flaws.

Give me a call when that happens.

Seattle PI
Has a great article about how Ichiro’s value is severely diminished in right field due to the other players on the roster. Same thing would happen here.

Other players like who?
Ichiro is easily the best player on that team.
I’ll call you if Wood and S-Rod get starting positions then, since that’s the only way Willits would be our lead off guy.
