Aamco. Is your check engine light still on?
So, my check engine light came on the other day. Thanks to the Angels AM 830, I knew where to go. Double A, honk honk, M-C-O. True to their word, they checked it out for free, in just minutes. The diagnosis? My gas cap was not screwed on properly. Did I feel like a moron? Yes. But did I PAY to feel like a moron? No. Thanks Aamco. Thanks Arte.

Good thing you did not have to pay.
It sounds like you went straight to Aamco and forgot to check freecreditreport.com first.

Just think if you would've tuned into Vin at Dodger Talk
you would’ve had a sudden hankering for a Farmer John.
You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?
I had a very bad experience with Aamco in Hollywood.
My van needed major transmission repairs, and I went there because they offered life-time warranty. After they had my van torn apart and taking twice as long as estimated to complete the repairs, they told me I needed to add an expensive transmission cooler or they would not guarantee the work, which included their new transmission. In the end they padded the bill nearly $1,000.
DIY
This is good to know; however if you want to do it yourself, Autozone lends out diagnostic tools at no charge. I just found this out after I paid 70 bones for a diagnostic at the dealership.
I could have screwed on your gas cap for free, too.
I’m pretty good at it, actually. Almost have it perfected.

I've known this for years
The “check engine” light is usually related to emissions issues. I always check the gas cap if it comes on. A couple of weeks ago my wife told me, “The check engine light is on.” “Did you get gas yesterday?” “Yes” Yep, she hadn’t put the cap back on tightly.
