SI has the Angels as #1
In a shocking turn of events, they put us above the Suxs! They even had some nice things to say...
"At this point, Los Angeles looks like the most well-rounded team in baseball. As is the case every year though, the Halos could use another big bat to protect Vlad Guerrero (Mark Teixeira would certainly suffice ...), but don't expect owner Arte Moreno to give up any of his big prospects at the deadline. Moreno has always been committed to building the franchise from within."

they had no choice
we just swept the Sauks. SI actually is pretty pro-Angels. they continually picked the angels to win the WS last year.
Go Angels!
Yeah, yeah another big bat
whatever. First place yo!

First Place
in the AL West doesn’t assure anything more then being in the playoffs. In the playoffs everyone is once again back at the start and It becomes a new season. Teams set up rotations so they get there 1 and 2 pitchers to pitch 2 times in a series. You don’t miss those guys like you might in a season. No Dice K or J. Lester on the BoSox past trip through. You will see them in a playoff series.
Willie Mays Aikens is FREeeeeeeee
dice k doesnt really scare me
we’ve shown that we can handle beckett, he doesnt rattle this team, i havent seen too much of jon lester, but my opinion is he is another joe saunders just with media coverage and a no hitter.
what gets me about dice k is that his won loss is outstanding, but whenever i see a sawx game on TV it seems like his control is never to good. and u can almost guarantee that if the sox get well ahead of whoever theyre playing, dice k seems to always let the other team back into the game thru walks, he doesnt seem to pitch well with a big lead. im just not sold on this export from the far east and would most certainly not be very worried about the angels facing him the post season.
if im wrong in my assessment please let me know

the key to daisuke is drawing walks and actually, like, doing something with them
he really bears down with runners on, so the key is gonna be hitting the ball over the fence with runners on. opposing batters are 0-11 against him with the bases loaded…he’s due for regression.

against beckett last week we pulled out four in an inning
and coupled with our starter holding them to near nill. i believe it showed that he doesnt intimidate us

They swept us in the playoffs with half our team on stretchers twice.
They still talk like they did something special.

2004 we were not on stretchers.

Oh, I think we were.
Glaus had just come off major shoulder surgery in September.
Anderson still dealing with back issues caused by his arthritis.
Erstad played 1B because he was too hurt to play somewhere else.
Guillen was gone.
Kennedy was out with injuries.
Salmon was out with injuries.
I’ve believe that is 6/9ths of our planned starting lineup.
~Till the Halo burns out...
or 2/3rds, as some people might say. :P

See the other topic.
We knocked Lester around pretty well back in April, so him being present in the playoffs doesn’t much scare me. Wakefield, who is more homer-prone and less hit-prone than most pitchers, is actually the stronger pitcher vs a team like ours. We still won.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Also...
We pretty much beat Dice-K last year in the playoffs… If only K-Rod hadn’t given up that HR to Manny.

Thppt
Career 9-12, 4.80 ERA vs. the Angels. Does that sound like the Halos have historically had a problem beating him?
Witty .sig wishing ladybug a happy birthday goes here.
You mean as opposed to say, Lester?
4 starts, 1-1, 7.78 ERA vs the Angels.
~Till the Halo burns out...
This is the single most important thing.
The front of the rotation is everything in the playoffs, and can we score enough off of them? I am not so sure we can.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.
Kobe tell me how my ass tastes
We've scored 8 runs off them in 12 innings during the two games we've played vs the front of their rotation.
Answer is YES.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Lester in April is a completely different animal.
a less effective animal.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.
Kobe tell me how my ass tastes
Our offense was a completely different animal.
Specifically, it lacked Howie and Rivera. Bring him on.
(Hilariously though, GMJ homered twice against Lester in that game.)
~Till the Halo burns out...
We shall see and I am resigned to hoping we see the White Sox in the ALCS.

Unlikely
If the playoff started today, we’d see either Boston or TB (not sure who gets the tiebreaker). Boston cannot play TB in the first round.

ALCS = American League Championship Series
I was implying that we play the Wild card beat them and then see the CWS, because they beat the Red Sox already

So can we collect our trophy now and use the balance of the season as our victory lap?
I woul dbe good with that.
Francisco Rodriguez: 188 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
Two things that change the picture some right now:
1) If the season ends right now, we get home-field advantage. The Sox are terrible on the road this year.
2) If the Red Sox win the division, and we keep our record as the best in baseball, we won’t even be playing them in the first round.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Jul 25, 2008 1:01 PM PDT reply actions
Assuming, of course, that the Sox record is the second-best behind us.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Jul 25, 2008 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions
No, if they win the East while we have the best record, we are almost guaranteed not to face them.
The best record plays the wild card, and since the WC isn’t coming out of our division (Oakland would have to pass 3 teams at least), we play them.

Big deal. The motivation is obvious.
It’s the only way to play the “underdog” card and create even more story lines for the playoffs.

You guys would be proud of me today
Changing trains today at Edinburgh station I was passing a proper fat Chowd wearing a Sawks hat. He was fat, sweaty, unshaven and ugly and had an ugly fat unshaven girlfriend too. As we passed by each other I casually remarked “F—k the Sux” ...
To his credit, the Chowd noticed my Angels cap and said “F—k the Angels” without breaking stride.
At least they’re taking notice of us :)
Don't call me Desmond
hahahahahahahahahaha
thats a good story.
i enjoy the how that remark was “casual”

I was in a snarky mood
Having already travelled 500 miles or so with a 100-pound suitcase full of gifts for Mrs highlandhalo and our son. Plus I was tired, so perhaps that’s why the remark was “casual” :) By casual I mean it wasn’t venomous or nasty, it wasn’t loud, it was just my way of acknowledging the Chowd and telling him that I hate his team.
Based on his reaction and appearance, he seemed like a died-in-the-wool Fenway scum dweller and not one of “The Nation’s” bandwagoneers.
There is one slight inaccuracy in my story, though: I said he didn’t “break stride”. By that, I should have said he was a really fat Chowd bastard and it was more of a “slow waddle” than a stride. Plus he was huffing and puffing uphill and I was rolling my case down the ramp. I still tip my cap to the guy for telling the Angels to FO.
Don't call me Desmond

I could swear that was this fat Chowd’s girlfriend. It’s giving me flashbacks man. All I was doing was changing trains, but something about a fat smug Chowd wearing one of THOSE caps makes me snap.
