Oh, Ick! Manny Has Eyes For The Angels
Manny Ramirez would prefer Boston to either extend him or release him after this year, allowing him to shop himself to all suitors. He is said by some to have his eye on the Angels, whose obvious need is for another big bat and who may have Vladimir Guerrero coming off the books after the season. An Angels person said they don't expect to make any major changes before the July 31st deadline.

Team option for 2009
Theoretically possible, just not plausible.

Certainly NOT.
Heyman’s usually better than that. I can’t believe he thinks we might opt out of Vlad. I want some of what Heyman’s smoking.

yeah that's pretty ridiculous
if his numbers are down again NEXT year, then i could see us maybe not resigning him, or at least not to a long term deal. but to just abandon him while we still have an option would be beyond stupid.

Ick
Manny being Manny but a happy version would be completely amazing hitting behind Vlad.
You would hate life too if every at-bat was criticized by 200 beat writers, 6 talk shows, 5 million Bostonians and you had to actually live and work in Boston. Think about that.
Your job was to win games for The Boston Red Sox. That would drive me insane, thats for sure. Manny would be Manny, but also super awesomely productive and hitty-like.
Im delirious for waking up this early for a 10am game, so excuse my babbling.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

Manny being Manny
Is like Jose Guillen Lite
He may not get in Scioscia’s face like Guillen, but he’s going to be spoiled, petulant and is going to beg out of the lineup at his discretion.
He is still a helluva hitter though and a one-year deal [maybe an unrealistic to assume you can get him based on just a one-year deal, where he might want at least three] maybe something to push a team like the Angels to the top.

Manny is NOT J Guillen lite. He's been playing for the same team for 7 years
and he’s got 2 rings. He’s a consistent producer and while he’s Manny, there is little evidence that he’s a clubhouse pariah. Plus he’s dominican which means that Vladdy’s mom likes him.

I'm sure it's in ready supply
Someone just needs to teach him how to wipe.

What a crybaby
He signed a monster contract and he knew that there were going to be all these team options at the end. Now that the contract is getting to the option years, he’s unhappy because the team is exercising its right to wait.

And please God no Manny
I would love the production but I would find it very difficult to cheer for the guy. I also find it very difficult to believe that the Chowds would really consider moving him this year when they’re in a fight for their lives just to make the playoffs and defend their title.

I don't want him on the Angels: too many negatives
Slugging % has dropped significantly: .493 in 2007, .524 this year, compared to .594 in 2005 and .619 in 2006.
Too old – he’s 36.
A terrible defensive player.
Too expensive: option for 2009 is $20 million
All the baggage of “Manny being Manny” (I doubt the Soth could stand that kind of BS).
Now watch Manny destroy Angels pitching during the upcoming series.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

it would take a 3-4 year deal to get him
one year is great…..but that isn’t happening.
Go Angels!

This isnt going to happen, but let's say it does: I'm stoked.
Of course, like above commenters, if it’s anything more than a 2 year deal then it’s crap. Also, in my dream scenario, he never hits the field. EVER. Only DH.
Whatever dude.

Hate, hate, hate him.

Our organization puts WAY more stock in personality than anyone else out there
so i seriously doubt they would sign Manny, unless we gave him the “Barry Bonds treatment” that was discussed last month (sign him w/very specific rules, cut him at the first hint of crap).
his numbers would be an amazing compliment to Vlad, but the attitude that comes with those numbers just does not warrant the money it would take.
don’t forget – Arte was ready to cut GMJ last year before he made a statement about the HGH stuff. These are still the same guys that cut Jose Guillen, one of our best bats, right before the playoffs.

Just a question as a point of interest for all of you:
Would you rather have GA or ManRam on the Angels?
Just as a point of contention, GA is exactly one month younger than the current Red Sock. They hit their 2000th hits on the same day (they’re currently above 2300 hits, separated by 15 hits in Manny’s favor). ManRam has approximately double the home runs (509 to 266) and 400 more RBIs (1666 to 1259), and a career SLG% .130 points higher than our halo-donning Anderson.
Knowing that, they both have physical ailments (Manny’s cranky knees - which he denies - and Garrett’s knees/back arthritis), Manny hits in an absolute wonderland for hitters, Garrett hits in a death trap for all things HR and power, and most importantly, Manny is a selfish, pig-headed, money-chasing narcissist with absolutely no regard for where he plays, so long as he does. GA is a career Angel.
Now, I ask you again, if forced as if by some depraved psychotic degenerate to the torturous task of picking between the two to play at Angels stadium, whom do you chose?
