KSPN: Teix 4 Kotch Close
Yes, cupie called and woke me up to let me know that 710 AM has jumped on the "let's hype up the nothing" bandwagon and is handjobbing the rumor that won't die (nor makes sense). And of course, they are justifying this "by-the-edge-of-your-seat" reporting by using today's LA Times item as their source!
The next time someone rolls his eyes and mutters, "...oh the blogs..." just remember that the money-losing Times has been pushing a non-story as fact for a few days now simply to retain market share - they know a certain number of eyeballs might wander off (perhaps to one of the blogs) if they don't manufacture news where there is none.
This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

My stomach did a cannonball when I read this headline.
Figured if you were posting it then it had some legitimacy…
Only way this makes sense...
...is if the Halos are given the opportunity to negotiate an extension which will keep Teix in Anaheim. Otherwise, I don’t see giving up Kotch (and ?) for a rental.
That trade
is so mind-boggling that I cant imagine why any Angel fan would want it to go through.
Rent a player for two months in exchange for the lovable Kotch who is young and could be just a productive.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
Plus Rivera
The Times article suggests that Rivera also be included in the deal. Two of our best offensive players for a short term rental of a very good offensive player? Sorry, no deal. And the Times article didnt even bother to suggest that perhaps that is not a good deal for the Angels; probably because to their eyes, the better known player, Texeira, must be worth two relative no name Angels. Balderdash!

is all i can muster, this trade would be the SECOND WORST IDEA SINCE LETTING WALLY JOYNER GO TO FA.
i pledge alliegance... to mike Scioscia
and the angels way of baseball

As the Rev states the Times is speculating (thank god)
This would not lengthen the lineup at all.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.
Kobe tell me how my ass tastes
Stark reports
“According to teams in this mix, the Braves aren’t necessarily insisting on getting a first baseman back, but they’ve made it clear that’s their preference. And if they don’t get a first baseman in return, they still are prioritizing a big-league-ready bat as the centerpiece of any trade.”
Interesting.
Rivera, Adenhart, Willits might work, possibly maybe. Probably not but I can dream.
Just dont touch my Kotchy-poo.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
Go Big!
I say go for it if you can lock Tex up for a few more years. If not hold on to Kotch! It would be interesting if they can get Ohman thrown in as well to make the bullpen that much stronger.

At first glance
I like it, but I keep coming back to where we would play Tex if we kept Kotch.
Outfield is a logjam, but Rivera might be part of the deal. Left Field is a possibility, but thats brings up the point that Tex might not be defensively sound in left.
Who knows, our GM ninja might come up with something crazy.

Boras
Scott Boras is Teixeira’s agent. Boras’ stated goal is to take his players to free agency and then have their value determined on the open market.
Basically, Teixeira is a rental for the rest of this season. Trading for him does not give us any additional advantage in signning a mult year deal.

He's said he wants to be on the east coast...
...and he’s a Boras client.
He’ll be a Yankee next season.
I see red people
Can someone dig up the infamous "I want to be on the East Coast" quote?

If Reagans trades away Kotch for Tex
He is an idiot. Who the hell would play 1B for us next year?? There is NO way that Tex would resign with us. If we want him that badly then we should just make him an offer this winter when he is a FA
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
If we trade Kotchman for Texiera
and Texiera leaves as a free agent, I would say that would leave Kendry Morales as the first baseman for next year.
Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, Glory lasts Forever!
and that is a mistake
Kotch is way better than Morales

is a championship worth it?
just think about it….2008 World Series Champion LAA…and then we worry about who’s playing first for 2009. i want to win now and Tex is worth it to me. i love the Kotchrocket but we’re talking about a switch hitting power bat who’s also a decent fielder.
then again, we are showing signs that indeed we can win with Kotch this year too. ok, cancel the del taco meeting!
long term
i dont like the idea of trading kotchman
but if(HUGE if) we won a world series with teixeira, it’d be the best move ever.
it goes back to are we serious about winning a ring or being consistently good?
that said, im not sure im crazy about including kotchman unless we got mike gonzalez back along with tex
Happy medium
Which is why you can’t trade Kotch for Tex.

the RPE isn't exactly reliable, from what I've seen
on the other hand, Jim Rome today says that we need to make the exception and trade for Tex.
It’s interesting to see all of the different viewpoints from fans and writers

Ive heard alot of "experts" talking about how we need Tex
They arent Angel fans and don’t realize how valuable Kotch is to this teams success

very true
Kotch is pretty valuable, but my question is, how is Tex not as valuable, if not more?
He’s basically Kotch with more power.
obviously, Tex is going to K more, but his power numbers are a good trade off for that.
in the long term, it would depend on whether or not we can resign him. I realize he’s a Boras guy, but if we win and he likes it enough, things could happen. you never know.

I would trade away Kotch ONLY if we can resign Tex
and I just dont see that happening. I see him in NY next year. They need a 1B and they can afford to pay him alot more than we can

The cash issue alone makes no freakin sense
Tex is a good player, i wouldn’t bust out cryin if we got him, but in my mind he falls under the same cloud as K Rod. Why would we trade Mi Amigo Juan and Kotch, who will probably combine for 45 home runs, 200 RBIs, and a .290 ave and great defense (Rivera’s good when he gets used to playing) at two positions for the next few years at a low low price for one guy who will cost millions more, if we even get to sign him? Especially when those millions will be needed soon for Vlady and Lackey. It’s the same reason I’d rather just give K Rod a lovely parting gift and go sign some other guy…closers are a dime a dozen, not 15 mil, and we have better things to spend on.

umm i think your numbers are a bit off
given full seasons, they could combine for 40-45 HRs and maybe around 170 RBIs. don’t overvalue the guys… they’re good, but they’re not THAT good

They can't combine for 40 - 45 HR
35 maybe. Kotch just isnt a huge HR threat
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
thank you for proving my point
i guess i gave them a bit too much.
i figured Kotch can hit 17-20, and Rivera is capable of 25 or so.

maybe the Angels get involved in these trade rumors
to help drive up the price for Tex so that other World Series contenders have to pay out the nose for him. No way, we trade Kotch for a rent a player. Rivera would be a rent a player for the Braves so he doesn’t make sense.
Angels in 08!
That's how my mind calculates things.
I see a prompt on the telly that has the Angels and Red Sox in the mix for Tex. My gut reaction is “Crap, not the Sox! More bats in the Sox lineup?!? NO!!”
Then I settle down, and my next reaction is “Wait a minute. The Sox are just going to make sure that we don’t get Tex cheap. Make us surrender a boatload of prospects and a couple of starters, because we have them.”
Then I get all Machiavellian, and turn it all around with “But, on the other hand, we might be playing that same card to up any price out of Boston!”
And all along I am thinking that the guy was once a trained enemy, who doesn’t want to play here, who is represented by the reprehensible Borass, and I put my faith on Kotch and Rivera…

BIG NEWS???
Angels first baseman Casey Kotchman was pulled off the field during pregame warmups this afternoon at Fenway Park. And there are strong indications he is about to be traded to the Braves for Mark Teixeira, according to a source with knowledge of those discussions. Details are still being finalized, and additional, lesser names are expected to be involved. But Kotchman for Teixeira is the core of this deal.
The latest: A second source with knowledge of these discussions says the Braves will get Kotchman, plus a second lesser name, for Teixeira in a 2-for-1 deal.

Just heard an update on ESPN Radio
Kotchman has been pulled from the lineup for tonights game, adding fuel to the rumor mill, about us trading for Texiera

Deal went down
Tex for Kotch and minor league pitcher
Just happend

Well there goes one very nice anti-Times, pro-blog rant all to hell.

LOOKAT HOW INNACUATE IT WAS
Kotchman and Marek is a shitload different than Kotchman, Rivera and a pitching prospect.
But yeah…
