$53,797 and change per inch
(moved from Fanposts by request of Rev Halofan)
Looks like Billy of ChOakmont has thrown away the book.
He signed sixteen year old 79 inch pitcher Michel Inoa, of the Dominican Republic, for $4.25 million dollars.
I guess Mr.Bean thinks the kid will grow a couple of inches and make this deal look like a bargain. But I think he should have paid by the pound instead. Which would be at $20,238.10 per, at the time of Michel's signing.

That's literally breaking the first 3 rules of Moneyball...
Don’t draft high schoolers.
Don’t draft high school pitchers.
Don’t pay too much for players.
What’s with this turnaround? Has Beane forgotten his cardinal rules?

Well they have not worked.
Maybe the genius finally noticed.

Maybe Beane got confused.
Maybe “university” the Dominican Republic means “prep school” in America.

ya, i noticed this too
i dont know if its because billy beane is changing or if because the owners and managers are having some say now but theyve been stealing a lot of bases lately, something that moneyball stressed billy hated and managers were ostracized for.
also, did anyone read that weird rumors on mlbtraderumors about how beane was gonna step down and wanted to be GM of the san jose MLS team?
WTF?

He has a part ownership in the Earthquakes, which is owned by Lew Wolff. He apparently has
already been handing the reigns to David Forst, and just giving input on the big things like the Inoa signing.

This kid
has heat, excellent control and decent offspeed stuff. Even if he develops over the next three to four years he still will be breaking into the majors at or before the age of 20.
Incredible talent, young, good frame. Another reason why the A’s can have a low payroll and still stay in the race.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
