steve phillips thinks this was a bad idea...
don’t have a direct quote, but pretty sure he was saying we needed a big bat to be taken seriously two weeks ago.

He told Ireland he was concerned that if we resign Tex, then we won’t be able to maintain the core of the team.
After reflection, and reading the Rev’s analysis, I think Phillips is wrong. I don’t think we’ll re-sign GA, much as I like him, unless he has an inhuman (and I mean more than Ruthian) second half. Frankie is an iffy signing, and as Rev pointed out, we’ve got Morales in reserve.
Phillips doesn’t like Morales at this point, which is part of why he thinks it was a bad trade. IMO, Morales is only in AAA because the organization wants him to get everday ABs, rather than sitting on the bench behind Kotch (now Tex).

Phillips is clearly paid to be a contrarian. It is now more obvious than ever that he makes his money by promoting that which cannot be known. It does not matter which way the wind actually blows, he can always make the claim that the winds would blow faster if they blew some other direction.
