Manny to the Dodgers!?!

Read about it @ ESPN here

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3513383

IMO - this opens the door for the ANGELS to win the AL title uncontested.

Who's left that could challenge the Angels? Tampa Bay looks like its running out of gas.

Even though the White Sox just got Griffey, he's a shell of himself and the Angels' pitching will take care of their hot/cold running bats.

Then we've got also-rans Boston, New York and maybe Minnesota/Detroit.

We just took care of Boston WITH Manny; New York - well even if the Yankees make the playoffs, I like our chances against them; Minnesota can hang in long enough to challenge and Detroit still hasn't put it together.

Let's raise a toast to Manny for changing the balance of power in the AL

I wouldn't go that far to say we'll win uncontested....

Actually, the downgrade for the Red Sux isn’t that much, if you look at stats for this year:
Ramirez: .299 / .398 / .529
Bay: .282 / .375 / .519

not to mention the upgrade in defense and elimination of one large distraction.

Also the Yankees have had a couple pretty good upgrades. Whoever comes out of the East will be battle tested. Not saying that we won’t take care of them in the playoffs, but it will be no walk in the park.

that ball is outta here....

Potential defense push

Manny played left at fenway better than anybody. Bay will need to get comfortable. They did get much better away from home.

I'm not saying we'll win uncontested either...

but…

Neither the Yankees or Red Sox upgraded their pitching. The Sox lost a big bat and replaced it with a medium one.

The Rays did nothing.

The White Sox made some moves, but they still have to hold off the Twins in the central.

The pennant is there for the taking.

Trade Manny for a bag of salt...

Red Sox pitching

In a short series, with Beckett as their #1 and Lester as their #2… that ain’t too shabby. I know we scored a lot of runs against Beckett yesterday but when I looked at the calendar it wasn’t October.

True, but I think the Yankees are much improved

so they didn’t upgrade their starters, but their lineup is much stronger with pudge for molina and nady as a 4th outfielder (and sexson riding the pine, haha).

and in the playoffs you only use 3 starters anyway, so it’s not that big of deal for them if they make it (Joba, Mussina, Pettite & maybe even Wang if he’s back). Plus Marte has some nasty stuff coming out of the pen.

And the Sox continue to deplete their farm system

Good stuff.

How’s that Gagne trade looking right about now?

When you think about the trades the Sox have made over the last few years, makes

you wonder what they’d look like if they kept a few more of those guys. David Murphy and Hanley Ramirez in particular are some frightening thoughts.

SS

Theo is a good GM, but i you look at all the moves he has made at SS it is quite dubious.

Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

Indeed

In the three-way he should have found a way to get Jack Wilson off the Pirates, he seems like a perfect fit for the Red Sux.

Won't help the Dodgers much !!!

Everyone’s talking about how it will affect the Sux…...no one’s said how little it will help the Dodgers. Manny’s not what he used to be & his fielding – well – SUX. So the only way it MAY help the Dodgers is in their attendance! If you happen to flip through a game – by accident – on TV…ever noticed how their Stadium’s practically empty but the attendance list 42,000!!!??? HA!

Boston will still be a threat come October................

They still have the tools to really compete. Don’t let the sweep get that distorted. They are the current world series champs, and just about everyone in that line-up is dangerous, even with out Manny.

The Angels will be around in October, I don’t think it will be a walk in the park for us. We have all the tools to make a solid run at the series.

dodgers v angels

these two trades point out the differences between the Dodgers and the Angels these days…The Angels get a guy in his prime. The Dodgers get a guy who is past his prime and has a history of being disruptive. The Dodgers are desperate and also dumb, and they seem to be spending a fortune for no results. Call them Baltimore West. They also make a huge deal about paying Joe Torre too much money, as if their problem is they need guidance. The bottom line is they had Scioscia working for them in-house and they were too stupid to see what they had. They say ugly is to the bone, and the Dodgers are basically ugly to the bone.
