Let's not get too cocky

In the wake of the Tush deal, and the Man Ram exit, I've read some comments from people essentially saying we're a lock for the world series. All I have to say is, whoa there! Easy does it. I'm excited too, but, go way back to your Sunday school days, think hard. What does pride come before? That's right, a fall! Let's not jinx things and bring on another pink eye epidemic. The Angels are still just as human as they were before these deals. Their hammies are just as vulnerable as anyone elses. Let's all chant the Scioscia mantra. "One day at a time. One day at a time..."

nothing is a lock

the yanks make me a little nervous these days…

remember, the mariners won 116 games in 2001, barely made it past the first round, and got rocked by the yankees in the alcs.

the post season is a whole new game. i’m happy with our team and i think we have the pieces to do it for sure, but i’m not assuming anything.

Mark Tush-era

It is a slang term for your hind quarters. I think it’s funny. I’m sticking with it.

Here is my take on this.

Yes, we shouldn’t get cocky. There has been a lot of good news about the Angels lately. The team has been winning, and we got the windfall of an awesome trade, and our play against the rest of baseball has been dominating in some cases. But that doesn’t mean it will be smooth sailing all the way to the World Series.

However.

I think that one of the whole points of being a sports fan is that we get to be cocky sometimes. We are allowed to be filled with pride when our team thrashes the mighty Red Sox like they were dolls. Pride goes before the fall, but it’s not our fall, right? I’m not playing out there. I’m just rooting for the team to win. And if they keep winning, I think that sometimes, because I am a fan and entitled to be this way, I’m gonna be filled with some damn pride! This team is awesome!

Just don't be like a chowda head, or Yanks fan.

It pissed me off so much to see MLB.com’s headline referring to “Halos-nation” after the sweep.

Believe, but do not ever be cocky about it.

Nah. Go ahead and be cocky. Everybody hates us anyways. it's not like it is going to cost us any friends.

Besides, there is an ancient saying. When you have a man down, and your foot is on his throat, kick him. Hard. Again.

Letting him up is for Bond movies.

What!

When in the history of baseball has the attitude of the fans or media affected a team on the field. This team is as level headed as any team Ive ever seen.

We are the favorites, get used to it and pray we dont peek too soon.

Let's suppose you're right

Although even players refer to their fan base as “the 10th man” because of the effect fans can have on the team, and although from the responses to my post it is clear that many of us fans feel the same as I do, another reason not to get too cocky is to rise above the competition. Red Sox fans are cocky, which adds to our disdain towards them. Yankees fans are cocky. Doesn’t it piss you off when someone brags about their 26 rings? Dodgers fans are cocky. I have no idea why, but they are. I don’t want to sink to the level of those people.

I’d like to believe that Angels fans are classier, just like the organization itself. If I can tie in another Sunday school reference, What Would Scioscia Do? If he were just a fan, and not the manager, do you think he’d be a cocky fan, or humble and aprreciative? How about Arte? He’s no Steinbrenner, who throws tantrums when his team doesn’t win the world series. I guess I just hope us Angels fans will adhere to the same mentality and principles as the team we follow. Maybe I’m an idealist, but it sounds like I’m not alone. “You could say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

I swear, if one more person tells me to "work smarter, not harder"...

Hell I'm only being cocky

one day at a time.

I’m enjoying each and every win as they come.

I have all kinds of Sux, and Skank fans around me. With all the other fans also hating on the Angels.

I’m not winning the WS, or the AL , yet. I’m to busy enjoying this as it unfolds. Ain’t no way I’ll sit on my hands, and put a cork in it.

I’m not running around town screaming. Just returning all the rhubarb given to me before each and every series.

Lets GOOOOOOOOO HALOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSS

Been waiting

For a long time for a team like this. Being a fan since the mid 70’s this is a nice feeling. We have had many talented teams in the past, but this one seems special like the 2002 team. They aren’t intimidated by any team. I know I am going to enjoy this special season game by game.

Get The Balance Right

You think youve got a hold of it all
You havent got a hold at all
When you reach the top, get ready to drop
Prepare yourself for the fall, youre gonna fall
Its almost predictable

Dont take this way, dont take that way
Straight down the middle until next thursday
Push to the left, back to the right
Twist and turn til youve got it right

A bunch of 8 year olds and I were just listening to Depeche Mode yesterday.

I’m teaching summer school. I like to play mellow music while they read independently. Nothing goes together like Frog and Toad and Personal Jesus.
