Harden to the Cubs
The Cubs' press release is out. The Cubs get Harden and Chad Gaudin for Gallagher, Murton, Patterson, and catching prospect Josh Donaldson. Jim Hendry did his best to counter the Brewers' acquisition of CC Sabathia. The A's get three MLB-ready players plus a solid offense-oriented catching prospect.

Well light up the division. The A's have dealt their often injured often critcally acclaimed papier mache ace to the Cubs. How many outfielders do the A's have now? 8? Jeez they have an embarrassment of riches in the outfield.
I think this is fabulous. He is out of the AL and out of our hair as far as the division goes. The Angels seem to do quite well against him. If they were to face the Cubs in the World Series this would not really scare me at all.
As for the Cubs this really takes the wind out of the sails of the SS Sabathia doesn't it? God that has to suck for Brewer fan. The Cubs cemented their dominance over the division.
St. Loius fan who was pleased with his teams performance to date also has to be disappointed.
The NL Wild Card race just got very interesting. The Mets clearly do not have the horses now, and the ATL has to be thinking about shipping Teixeira off.

One needs to assume that Harden does not break down
in order for this to be seen as trumping Sabathia to the Brewers. My guess is that the A’s know more about Harden’s health than the Cubs do.

Gaudin is an improvement to their rotation.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

I do not disagree. But he is no Sabathia.
If the Cubs only get full production out of Gaudin in this trade, they do improve their staff and they still do appear to get the better of the A’s, but they do not keep pace with what Milwaukee just did.

They may remain a step ahead of the Brew crew anyway though.

If Harden makes his starts this is very lopsided

Great point!
At the same time, I think the Cubs still win this trade even if Harden misses 50% of his starts.

Interesting
I just learned that A’s bullpen coach Ron Romanick has been instrumental in keeping Harden off the shelf lately by changing Harden’s prep routines.
Didn’t know Romanick was a turncoat! He was a pretty decent workhorse for us for a few years.
