“Teixeira chose uniform No. 25 when he joined the Angels. He wore 23 in Texas because Don Mattingly was his favorite player as a kid. Twenty-three was taken by Matt Diaz when Teixeira joined the Atlanta Braves so he wore No. 24 there. Both 23 (pitching coach Mike Butcher) and 24 (Gary Matthews Jr.) were taken on the Angels. Butcher said he was willing to switch but Teixeira didn’t ask. “In the offseason you can bargain but coming here in the middle of the season I’m not going to take anyone’s number,” Teixeira said. “Maybe if we win the World Series this year we can talk after the season.”

Yeah.
