Steve Phillips Makes My Head Hurt

Can I go on a little rant here about Steve Phillips of ESPN?  Two months ago he rips the Angels for not having an offense good enough to win, granted at that time he looked correct, and that the Angels needed more power to compete with Boston.  The Angels go out and get Teixeira, hoping to make Phillips happy I’m sure, and he still isn’t happy.  While the Angels were scoring and beating the Sox, he said Boston has more ways to score and beat you.

See I thought there are two ways to win a baseball game hit or pitch, it seemed to me that the Angels did both earlier this week.  Furthermore I didn’t see Boston scoring on a suicide squeeze after hitting two homeruns, all in the same inning! He is the same analyst who stated that when he was GM he always wanted to make a deal to energize his team and to show them they were in it to win.  Then he flip flops like a politician, he seems to think the normally tightfisted, prospect-wise; Angels have no clue who their first basemen will be next year.

Like someone said on here, come next year first grounder to first there will be no one there to field it.  At this point I want to jump through the television and scream in his face Kendry Morales, who’s on base percentage (just for the statheads) can’t be any worse than Kotch’s .320.  I love Kotch but Kendry cannot be that much of a downgrade, well may be defensively.

My only solace in this is that no one should/can take this guy seriously this is the same GM who jumped on Mo Vaughn like he was being Stoneman's wingman, traded Kazmir (and wow could the Mets use him now) for Victor Zambrano, yes Victor that is a misnomer, and had sexual harassment charges made against him while in office for an admitted affair.  Steve even if it’s consensual it can still be considered sexual harassment.

I’m starting to think his affair was with Theo since he seems to be in bed with the Sox.  Although they may breakup after the Manny trade, I guess he will have to endorse us for AL unless somehow he will pick the Yankees, “they have more ways to give up runs.” Sorry about the rant but I had to get this out because every time I vent about this to my girlfriend she looks at me like I’m crazy, which is probably true.

sorry,

I always require proofreading but seems pointless on blogs. I’ll be more considerate of those who read next time. Anyway I feel a lot better now, it was so bad I would reward my dog for growling at Phillips on TV. God help him if they ever met in person.

My (then) wife alnost divorced me in 2002….fortunately we did in 2004 (but thats another story) ...My current girlfriend also thinks I am completely wacko for my devotion to the Halos. I try to explain that after following the team for 37 years it is a part of who and what I am. Fortunately…...she is very forgiving. But rest assured I will make her see the (halo) light (up)

It's funny you should write this

Between games of beer pong last night, I was thinking about what losing Casey really means to the organization. And I decided “something, but not as much as we think.”

Casey was not a sufficient hitter for first base. He was leaps and bounds better than Erstad, but that’s only because our expectations from first base production are probably lower than any other team. We’ve needed power at the corners for years, and Teixeira brings us power at first for the first time in a long time.

Kendry will provide roughly the same production as Casey. His defense will be worse, to be sure, but this Tex deal isn’t mortgaging the future. It’s mortgaging a modicum of defense for a couple months of the best available big bat. And while I know that I already miss #35, the fact remains that the organization has the depth to maintain a high level of play even with one of our former top prospects now with Atlanta.

And should we win it all this year, does any of that even matter?

Steve Phillips

I think I would punch him in the face if I ever saw him.

He basically crossed the line to bleeping ridiculous when he scalded the Reds for setting a bad example by playing Josh Hamilton last year. Then during the homerun derby he was jerking off all over the place talking about how wonderful he is.

douche bag.

STEVE PHILLIPS HATES THE ANGELS

We cost him hi GM job by pilfring Mo Vaughn for Appier from him.

HE IS AN IDIOT and the ANGELS exposed his stupidity for the world to see.

HE WILL NEVER GM AGAIN and it is because of the ANGELS.

Every time he sits down he can still feel the throbbing we gve him and his career.

When Mister Gray mentions the NAgels he is a spiteful liar, full of shi, still steaming, and kinda funny in a pathetic, drooling old dork way.

I was listening to the Teixiera reactions the other day and Phillips came on.

I could not believe what I was hearing. I got really motivated to go aon a research project that exposes his hypocrisy and idiocy in his own words.

Then I wised up. He is not worth the effort. If the Angels organization is not worth the ESPN’s effort to observe, to recognize, to report on, and to share with the rest of baseball fans right alongside their more favored teams, then their employees are not worth my effort to easily whatever authority they claim to possess.

steve phillips is stupid

he said we wont sign mark teixeira because then we wouldnt be able to re-sign vlad or frankie

really? Damn steve, we wont pay 15 million for frankie, shucks. Id bet my life hed trash us even if we DID re-sign frankie for it being too much for a reliever.

In his defense, they are told what to say by their producers. Kruk was quoted on the radio once after being questioned about a comment he made as just laughing and saying he says what he is told to say.

they want to piss you off. Making the angels sound dumb pumps the east coast teams’ egos and pisses us off and has us talking about it. Either way, we all watch

You hit it on the head there.

Since we cannot go back in time and change events, then roll time forward and compare one direction versus another, we will never know precisely how great would have been the success or failure of doing “the other thing”. So commentators and analysts are free to come forward with those declarations precisely because they cannot be disproven. it’s a great gig if you can get away with it.

When the commentators start going on about how boring it is ...

that we’re 7-0 on this East Coast Swing, then I’ll start listening to them. At worst we finish the swing through BAL-BOS-NYY at 7-3, and somehow I don’t think that’s gonna happen with U-Haul batting third.

I love winning. Phillips is a moron.

ESPN has another doddering incompetent: Bucky Showalter

ESPN (no longer a credible news source) is the CNN of sports …....... hanging tightly upon the ashheap of history. The ESPN store sells kneepads with the Red Sox insignia emblazoned across it.

Funny how our team eviscerates the East like a modern-day General Sherman, and we still get no love.

You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?

Yeah, ESPN bites

I was watching the game on the YES network last night, and even the Yankee announcers, the biggest jerks in broadcasting, were praising the Angels.

They talked about how good we were almost as much as they talked about the Yankees.

If YES, the Yankee Entertainment and Sports network, praises us then we know we are doing something right!

to be honest

the yankees broadcast is one of my favorites. Their announcers sound genuineley excited or impressed when the opposing team does something well.

i REALLY dont want to say this: but i enjoy boston’s home announcers too. Not over animated, well versed with the teams they talk about.

hard to admit, but its true

They're only fun to listen to when you are the one doing the ass-kicking.

When it’s the other way around, they become every bit the homers that Rex and Phys do, only more annoying, especially the Yankees guys.

Back to the Steve Phillips Topic

He said there was NO WAY the Red Sox make the playoffs without Manny. Is he on crack?? Jason Bay playing at 100% is better than Manny playing at 50%

I hate the Sox, but Manny was a cancerous turd that needed to be removed. I really think the Sox will be BETTER without him

He did however say that the Angels would have been better off keeping Kotchman because Teix will be gone after the year and I do actually agree with that.

I know you guys keep saying that Morales is just as good, but I just don’t see it. And as far as resigning Teix goes, no way thats happening. We need money to resign Vlad and Lackey. Lackey is going to command a BIG contract to lock him up for a long time.
